  1. try boiling the wood if you get impatient
  2. is that a light unit or a clock-radio? looking good, sorry for your losses
  3. all right, despite me having little money and time at the moment (new baby) I've managed to beat it it seems. my beard algae is gone too. just reduced photoperiod, big WC, added nitrogen, carbon, and micro-nutrients. Did a big clean up too, there was a lot of dead leaves from my stargrass (still not growing right, but time will tell). thanks for your help!
  4. something fast moving so they don't get eaten?
  5. wow top 5 imo, any bigger photos?
  6. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/index.php?PG=plant&PID=AF1 sounds cool, pity it doesn't like warm water
  7. no to fill up a filter with phosphate remover or similar is the trick. i didn't think that marine needed biomedia.
  8. why is it not illegal, its not a native is it?
  9. the whole filter full of it? that sounds like a marine trick to me, and its not normal to use a canister for biological filtration in a marine aquarium right?
  10. looks like some kind of ammonia or phosphate remover. most often used in marine tanks i think
  11. ah I remember those days. it started as not writing plecostomus out in full and then you couldn't even write pleco. as for your question, I have no idea
  12. remember that there is more than salt to deal with. brackish tanks are normally rather hard and alkaline which can be a problem in itself for some plants. I reckon valisneria would be a good one to try. good to hear that you had some success, any photos?
  13. thought about other dwarfs? apistos or dwarf flags? have a look at http://www.dwarfcichlid.com.
  14. could you use non HO T5s? otherwise floating plants is the way to go. I love Indian fern but some don't.
  15. yes i never can spell the damn word. I know I should use ambulia but ease and price came out over geographical accuracy
  16. I don't have a photo at the moment but ill describe my attempt: Black grit (from HWFF) substrate. two flat pieces of wood form an informal background, the idea was that they would look like tree trunks growing out the water. LHS Large clump of combodia, Middle LHS many small-medium amazon swords in a dense clump, middle twisted roots with moss and java fern growing on it, Middle RHS chain sword, RHS large clump of stargrass. front small crypts. hope that makes sense and give you some ideas.
  17. i reckon another 5 black neons and 15 or so featherfin rainbows. good numbers and the two fish are really different.
  18. im pretty sure all of the common frogs are Australian and are pests. best check on species before feeding them to anything though
  19. so thinking Seachem Flourish Excel, and Nutrafin Plant Gro NPK will that be ok? I already have a bottle of Seachem Flourish. buying the seachem macro nutrients separably gets pretty expensive.
