  1. I would still use mechanical filtration to take out the large floating particles/food etc before you hit the noodles/bio balls
  2. Could have been nematodes or flagelattes that kick started it Very hard to cure once it has got the Razor thin forehead How bad is it and is he still eating?

    Metronadizole

You will need to get a prescription from your vet
  4. Pic 3 is a first generation cross from the male in pic 2,a german yellow tail with a virgin female They are very similar but not close enough, but I have 1 month old fry from these This generation should be a lot closer to the original fathers colours,we'll see
  5. Just in my LFS and they tell me that mollies are off the import list Does anyone know if there is any truth behind this? Also some barbs but no mention of names
  6. Yes put the silicone along the edge and push together, you want to see a nice consistent bead along the edge with no air bubbles. You definately need the silicon in the join area I Let it squeeze out the side and then once dry slice the excess off with a razor blade. I also put tape along the joins on the inside and bottom before joining so I get a nice straight line I try for about a 10mm bead inside the glass thickness, you could get away with thinner but only on the smaller tanks I put tape around the outside as I build to help hold it together Once I am happy with the joins and they are all even I then go around the inside with more silicone I always put a real thick bead and then smooth it out with my finger The important thing to remember is to remove the tape on the inside as soon as you have finished and while the silicon is still wet or you will get a nasty lip of silicon if its too dry. One tube should be heaps unless the tank is big!
  7. How did I miss this post earlier, Your discus are looking fantastic Amy Wow big tank too,I love it they look so healthy! I see you got yourself a blue diamond? You must be seeing some pairing activity in there by now? All the best
  8. Little India is always good for a cheap meal
  9. :happy2: Best of luck with the spawn If its just the body shape thats a little off you should be all good Generally this is just caused through environmental conditions If its fin deformities/gill deformities or bent spines/caudals probably genetic although some fin/gill deformities can be environmental Very low chance of any surviving in a gravel bottom tank Looks like a blue snakeskin and a turq Interesting to see what the fry might look like, the combination should be pretty good
  10. You have some very very nice guppies David and they are all so healthy looking What is your secret?

OH NO! Sorry to hear I know you were putting a lot of effort into these Lets hope you can pick some more up but by the sounds of it that could be difficult
  12. I agree with Adrienne, put the fish in a bucket or plastic container and pp or bleach the tank Its quite easy to do daily water changes on a 40L tank so if you do that you will not have a problem
  13. Tank looks great :hail:but you should really be having a crack at breeding those discus!
  14. This seems to be the norm, you will always get one or two that don't grow that well out of 5 or 6 Buying 10 like fishplants did will tend to get you more that grow out better, but same thing applies some won't grow There is a higher risk when buying smaller discus under 75 mm or even 50 mm but this is weighed up with the cost of the discus being much less
  15. Ph should be fine,I know the rams prefer slightly lower ph but most fish do fine as long as the ph is stable and doesn't fluctuate. Very unlikely that your nitrate is reading 0, maybe your test kit is old?
  16. If it looks like an aggressive behavior?, its quite possible that it is a male, the other discus could be a female not ready to spawn I have a pair with a very aggressive male that acts like this and at times I need to use a divider or else he can really beat her up
  17. that sounds spot on to me

    New here

Hi Wonderfulguppy , what types of guppies to you keep? :happy2:
  19. Just what Luke has said already, most do have some form of peppering but it would be nice to see some without, chuck some pics up if you can? If you a paying the price for a pair, best to see them with fry on there back Also what are your intentions?,raising discus takes a lot of work and isn't necessarily for everyone Though its nice to have a goal, for instance with the marlboro you could look at trying to clean them up of peppering
  20. What about Rick Astley's hairdo, thats got great shape,as for his moves they are extraordinary
  21. Thats a beautiful tank there P44 and I love the wilds! By the way nice link to a Rick Astley song
  22. You can use it to soften your water, but pure RO is not good for the fish so long term you should mix with tap water to get your desired result
