  1. Did the whitespot come in on another fish?
  2. Wow you got the whitespot at that temp of 29° or have you just raised it? I don't know to much about the loaches and there treatment with that med but MarkLB just put up a good link in another whitespot post Whitespot do not like temps of 30° Raising the temp to 32° would be in conjuction with the metro treatment for your discus, best done in a hospital tank Maybe put up a piccy of the white poo and someone maybe able to point you in the right direction with treatment
  3. What med are you using for the whitespot? You could raise your temp to 30 and leave it there for a week or two until it clears up avoiding the use of meds Best to only treat with metro if you are sure its needed Treat the discus in a separate tank this would minimise on metro use. If you have to treat the main tank, metro and a higher temp of 32° works best together, but the other fish may not like these temps, although it will resolve your whitespot issues My Discus tanks sit anywhere between 27-30° so whitespot is not a problem. 28° is a good target temp.Daily water changes will keep your discus tank ticking along nicely
  4. HI there NzDiscus How are your fish doing now? Are you still doing 50% water change daily? and has there appetite picked up, they can go off food for a week or two after metro treatment

    My First Discus

lots of spots! and really healthy looking too The Snow White looks really nice aswell. How are they feeding now?
  6. Theres also a good Aus Forum on Discus that you could check out Might be some good reading there and they might be able to point you in the right direction regarding where to get your discus http://www.discusforums.com/forum/
  7. Stunting can occur from all manner of things including small tank, poor water condition, overcrowding, poor diet and bullying. Alot of discus owners do daily water changes to keep the water in tip top shape They will stay healthy for sure but if they have done there growing already they won't grow anymore or very little highly unlikely for sure check them out and see what they look like, check the eye size, it should not be too big in proportion to the body I would for sure, , it will mean shipping but you would come out better off in the long run with quality fish. not all look stunted, the turk and the snow white look allright but it could just be the angle of the photo.
  8. Hi there, the one in the middle of the first pic looks to be a red turk and does look to be the pick of the bunch. They all seem healthy, especially for LFS discus although IMO they look to be a little stunted and may not grow much more I see you live in Aus, if I was you I would try and source my fish through these guys in these posts You would do better here IMO http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?t=59914 or http://www.discusasahobby.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=c1acb857ff0ff6c0fcb3a5b8159ec539&topic=10231.0 http://www.discusasahobby.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=c1acb857ff0ff6c0fcb3a5b8159ec539&topic=10104.0
  9. Glad to hear that your turk is on the mend Its also quite normal for one discus to not grow the same as the rest, theres seems to be abit of a pecking order amongst discus and there always has to be one at the bottom of the ladder
  10. I would pm ron and ask what he thinks. Flashing off things and rapid breathing or breathing from one gill can all be signs of gill flukes gill flukes are more of a problem on young fish than they are on adults It sounds more advanced than this and could possibly be a bacterial infection or maybe investigate jim r's claim of poisoning of some description My first line of defence would be water change, as long as this was not the cause e.g something in the water If you are sure it is just gill flukes It would be best to medicate the fish in a separate tank if you can 1 50mg droncit tab per 20 litres maybe read this ,it might help http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=38420
  11. Hi majik , yeah that would be really cool, will do
  12. Awesome setup Vincent, the discus all look so healthy Best of luck with some of those crosses , love to see the outcome of that albino snake crossed with the albino yellow white The albino snakeskins that you posted a few months ago did you have any luck with those?
  13. Beautiful discus there majik , are all of them but one albinos very very clean tank to, looks great!
  14. Epsom salt helps you edit:suphew http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?t=25743
  15. Hi Luckyfish, please don't be put off by the amount of water changes that have been suggested there are ways to make it easier on yourself that don't include a bucket, Fill/syphon kits are available as well as pumps and hoses Adult Discus can exist fine on 2 large water changes per week, but if you want to see them at there best then it is recommended that you change more, daily or every alternate day. Adodge gave you some great advice especially if you go planted tank, I would follow his guidelines Although you could house more if you go bare bottom with more maintenance Juvenile discus are a whole different ball game, if you go this route then once again it is recommended that you change daily because of the heavy feedings and for optimum growth Once you become a Discus junky like myself  you will have no qualms in doing these water changes, and it not life or death if you skip one either I have also been on holiday for upto 2 weeks with no problem at all, I just have a someone pop in every 2nd or 3rd day to feed them. Having a 2 or 3 day weekend is also never a problem.I just perform a water change before I go and the fish are fine when I get back
  16. Yeah the bamboo one looks very serene. I also like the guppy tank too but my favourite would be pic 7 and 8, the one with the 1st place sticker. But check out the last photo, it looks like all the harlequins are jumping out of the water
  17. gorgeous Discus chin thanks for posting
  18. Maybe they are ,but none the less they are still beatiful spotted snakeskin discus and I want some!
  19. Hi Vincent, thanks for sharing, must have been an eye opener for sure. Did you get any pics of the adults or juvenile discus? Thats alot of tanks , do they pay for water usage in malaysia? I remember reading somewhere that Tony Tan does 2 100% water changes per day does Martin do something similar? because thats alot of water to go through kyle
  20. The spotted snakeskins look great ,very fine spots and beautiful shapes, also love the turks, beautiful body patterns. How many tanks in that setup? must have been a fantastic trip
  21. Wow! the albinos seem to be all the rage at the moment, really love the yellow ones, how many did you bring back with you

    Bloated discus

Hopefully its just a blockage, you could try some epsom salt a 2 tbsp per 40 litres and see if that helps if nothing has happened after a couple of days it is possible that it is some sort of internal bacterial infection
  23. I have used 1 tablet per 20 litres which is the same as what has been stated here already, if that was my tank I would reduce the water level to 80 litres and treat with 4 tabs , leave 48hrs and then top the tank up again and water change 50% per day for the rest of the week and then repeat the procedure again as its only effective on adults not the fluke eggs.
