  1. If your tap ph is 7.4 and your tank ph is 6.6 and you do 90% water change? I'd be a little concerned with that, that will definately be a good cause of stress for your discus I'd also just do one thing at a time until you get the results I wouldn't medicate on a whim if you are going to be adding a ammonia treatment I would wait to see the results from that first
  2. Yeah almost definately the cause of the death of the 2 discus But from the previous posts I think as I understand this has been an on going problem There really is no need to add anything like discus buffer to your water What is your ph out of the tap? Water change is the key We are keeping water,if the water is good, the fish will be happy
  3. You sound like you are doing well with your discus especially if you have managed to breed them? Its unfortunate that you can not age your water, it does help but not crucial If you had ever seen the muck and crap at the bottom of a hot water cylinder you would not use it on your fish what is the filter system you are using and how long was it out to cause the 2 deaths? So the cycle was to kick start the filter because of the filter being down? I know the aqua plus is a dechlorinater but what is the discus buffer? There really is no need to add anything bar a dechlorinater to the water I know you have done al right with your method but I am just trying to save you some money I still believe if you step up your water changes you will see results Put a glass of water on the bench overnight and test ph straight from tap and then the next day and see if there is a difference Maybe interesting to see
  4. Hi there, sorry to hear about your problems Firstly young discus do breath faster than adults But since your adults are suffering the same symptoms,I would suspect the water Do you age your water overnight? Do you treat for chlorine and chloromines? One 90% water change weekly for young discus is not enough Try increasing this to 50% daily with aged tap water Then see how they are doing, it could just be the fact that the discus are causing more waste now they are growing, and 90% weekly is not enough to cope Adults can get away with less but you want to do at least 2 times changes a week or more If you have a microscope you could do a scraping from behind the gill cover from a live discus, definately not from the gills! and then scope it, I would not treat for flukes unless I was 100% sure that was the problem Though a recently deceased discus or a cull is perfect for this. You haven't told us how many discus and what tank size? So I am going to take a guess at too many pollutants in the water and step up the water changes Then see what results you get

    Prazi

Droncit, is prazi, not a bird wormer but for cats and dogs
  6. Theres one called pure dew which I have used before, not sure from which supermarket, but it is distilled,RO filtration and ozonation
  7. You should really treat your fish in a separate tank, bare bottom tank is best

    hi from nelson

Hi Cam, for Nelson :bounce:
  9. You should really quarantine your fish for 6 weeks before adding them to your exciting tanks and fish Especially after having a mysterious illness wipe out your stock people talk about but few rarely do it 6 weeks in a quarantine tank and then add one of your existing stock(one you don't mind loosing) to the quarantine tank that way you don't wipe out all your precious fish
  10. Hi Roger Yeah more than likely just the breeding causing the problem leading into the spawning. Maybe a ph crash? rain water doesn't offer much buffering capacity, you could mix it with tap especially when using co2 can drop the ph How long have you been adding the excel? Not sure about the dose and its effects on the discus, maybe someone can offer some help just a few thoughts.
  11. This is oh so common nowadays I remember introducing an imported guppy 3 or 4 years back which bought something in with it and i started getting the wasting thing going on with my guppies I eventually culled the whole lot and started again Now I am very careful about what I introduce into my tanks I still get the odd skinny one and bent spine but I always cull these out Best to only keep the strong and eliminate the weak I tend to think its some form of bacteria which is causing all the problems
  12. Yeah a bigger tank would be better Best to water change before you go 30 litres is not big so uneaten food will polute that fairly quickly so maybe only feed once or twice while away and they should be fine
  13. Wow! lying on there sides? Its hard to say what it could be, Double check your parameters to make sure nothing hasn't changed drastically If you are doing 90% water changes a day which is really good by the way, It could be something that may have sneaked into the water Maybe more chlorine?or something has been put into the water If you have had any of this rain like we have, its quite possible this has happened Prazi won't help here, only really treats tapeworm and flukes
  14. The pet store will be talking about Droncit(praziquantel)for tapeworms and flukes Nematodes are alot more common and therefore levamisole(aviverm) would be a better worming option but not sure really if these will help you at all. This sort of thing seems to happen to discus all too regularly in a community tank You always get 1 or 2 that don't eat quite as well as the rest and in the end stop eating They then start to waste away and get the razor thin forehead My view on this is its more than likely hex that is the problem and therefore the treatment would be metronidazole But you need to get onto it early and some fish are just to far gone to be worth treating Best of luck
  15. Chuck 2 blue fish in a tank and one would expect blue fry But not the case in discus land You should hang onto the best solid blue and breed back to one of the parents Females will mature first Best of luck with them
  16. Nice! interesting to know what might be in there heritage? Maybe some pigeon? or are you feeding alot of tetra bits? only because of the colouring in the fry
  17. Nice work Nav That will keep you busy! Best of luck

    ID help please

Water changes are your best defence, before adding meds to the tank Generally small stuff like this will clear up with regular water changes and by that I mean daily until gone If your tank is to big to make that happen I would suggest moving to a smaller tank Good aquarium husbandry is the key HTH
  19. Depends on how far gone it is Every little set back will effect the growth of the fish If the fish is still young and has some growing left in it then yes if you give it the optimum conditions then you can get more growth But once a fish is a year old the growth slows right down

    Blue eyes

Your pics are a little blurry Your discus eyes are probably a white/cream colour Discus eyes can be red, orange, yellow and white Some can have a bar through them some don't never seen any with blue
  21. Flosty

    White Poo

If the discus is hanging around at the bottom of the tank staring at the back wall and not eating and pooing white you need to treat with metro Best to remove to a quarantine tank and treat Otherwise the meds can add up real fast all the best
  22. It looks like it could be some sort of intestinal blockage Epsom salts is a good start but if that don't clear it up it can move on to a bacterial infection Monitoring the parents with the fry is best solution to when to remove parents/fry There is no hard and fast rule on how long to leave them together But when the parents start to looked stressed from all the fry grazing on them thats a good time to remove I hope you resolve it all the best
  23. I would follow Rons advice You should also treat your parents for flukes prior to spawning the flukes are generally passed on from the parents
  24. 30 - 31 is way too high, generally they will go off spawning at that temp 27 - 28 is way better,I keep mine at 27 Possible causes are,2 females,Male to young,Male not interested, tds too high, not so much ph but a lower ph is definately more suitable Make sure your water conditions are tip top!
  25. Use to play a lot of counterstrike but not so much anymore.Well its very rare anyway
