  1. Hi Vervo, You have a beautiful looking aquarium and all credit too you for that, but your tank is not ideally suited to growing out young discus. Its very difficult to grow out discus in planted aquariums of that size,You would do far better if it was bare bottom and did daily water changes, then you would have a crack at growing healthy discus. How long have you had the discus? Is it a blue diamond?
  2. Water change atleast 50 % and add an airstone like others have said already Make sure the water surface is is really moving from the bubbles
  3. 8 Weeks in quarantine will do it +1 Not all discus will grow to full potential, for that to happen a fish must not have any setbacks
  4. Yes that is spawning activity and yes the female can lay eggs at 8 months or earlier but the male will take a few more months to mature
  5. 2.5 mg per litre or one 50 mg tab treats 20 litres prazi targets tapeworm and flukes tapeworm is quite rare but nematodes aren't You would probably be better off treating for nematodes with levamisole

    Discus plague??

The changing of the tail colour from clear to black is perfectly normal, and quite common with the pigeon strain as the fish matures
  7. 48 - 60 hrs dependent on temperature, mine tend to be closer to the 60 hr mark
  8. Nice fish, the only thing you no for certain is that you have at least one female  At a guess the one on the right, but you still could have two females.Until you get wrigglers you won't know for sure
  9. What generally happens is 1 or 2 fish tend to grow a bit faster and bigger and leave the rest behind. These fish may go onto a good adult size where as the rest may only attain an average adult size with one usually being smaller. Best way to combat this is to have bigger groups 10+ and you will get better results
  10. Lots of variables here,if you plan on going bare bottom then 400 high should be fine,I prefer mine 450 You can have even lower for growing out discus but for a large adult discus in a bare bottom tank 450 is a nice height Best to get 6 discus to grow out in that tank,5 is ok but larger groups do far better Daily water changes are recommended for optimum growth You might get 1-2 cracking fish out of that 6 and the rest will be so so's
  11. Very clean for pigeon bloods, thanks for showing
  12. Theres a wealth of information available on the internet about bonsai.Lots of forums and other sites dedicated to the subject - http://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/forum.htm http://www.ausbonsai.com/forum/ http://knowledgeofbonsai.org/forum/ http://www.artofbonsai.org/ http://www.bonsaifarm.tv/content/view/109/1/ http://www.bonsai4me.com/SpeciesGuide/SpeciesIntro.html http://walter-pall.de/00gallery/index.html Walter Pall's gallery and blog is very interesting and he has some of the best bonsai out of europe Theres also alot of books available on the subject as well. Its a fantastic hobby to get into and very addictive too,you might start out with one tree but that may soon turn into 50 Bonsai are best grown outside as they are trees after all, but the ficus trees like you mention will not take to kindly too winter conditions and may be best kept outside only during the summer months. I have a fondness for maples especially tridents as well as pines, japanese black pines etc The trident maple and the chinese elm would be great starter material, they grow fast and adapt very well to pot life

    I hope the 40x 400l tanks was a misprint
  15. You'll get throwbacks in the domestics which will resemble wild type discus it all depends on the make up of a particular strain e.g marlboro reds will throw a small percentage of browns Very few strains breed true so a breeder could work with these throwbacks if he wished
  16. Who has imported these? or where can I get some from?
  17. Stunting is more often than not environmental Stunted discus can breed like all other discus and can produce normal offspring Maintain the water quality and feed her good food and she will spawn when shes ready best of luck

    discus id!

These to me look like cobalts.Cobalts have 9 stress bars.If you look closely you will see a bar through the eye and one on the tail The rest will show up when stressed.Juvenile cobalts will show stress bars and will look just like turqs with broken stripes and lines They will slowly cover in as the fish matures to a full blue colour or very nearly full. Blue diamond are stress bar less discus or can show one through the tail area, they also have a full eye ring ,red or orange/yellow
  19. Haha , looks funny when its green like that and doesn't look very appetizing But when its frozen it seems to go brown or more the meat colour
  20. Best of luck with the pair you have found,Are they a nice pair?strain? Females mature quicker,I have had them laying at 7 months, males generally take longer to be fertile,12 months + Females growth will be strongly inhibited if you let them spawn to young and small Once they carry fry there growth all but stops, very hard to stop them from spawning though once they start Only way is to separate sexes even then 2 females will still lay eggs together. So you potentially could have a viable pair at 12 months+ of age but generally it takes them a few attempts to get it right,if they ever
  21. 18 months will be pretty close to fully grown, possibly get a little more out of them upto 2½ years Could thicken up a bit
  22. It stops the clouding of the water
  23. Leave the ox heart raw, that will be fine I only said it can be cooked because some prefer to cook it as it gets rid of the blood You can use the liver but cook it first,I fry mine for a few mins I never use to use liver but have done recently,it provides lots of vitamins But my fish eat the mix with or without the liver, really doesn't matter to much
  24. You can use prawns or shrimp also If you are going to use liver cut back the amount you are using by a ½ or less compared to you ox heart You also want to cook it slightly, gets rid of blood and helps with not making the water cloudy during feeding Some also cook there ox heart,I have done both.Cooking gets rid of the blood but I generally leave it raw Fresh spinach is a great source of greens, boil it and add to the mix paprika as a red colour enhancer Why not try some mussels,I use them and my fish love them
