  1. it will grow slower in cold water the reports you hear about it spreading like wildfire are normally in tropical tanks . ferts shouldnt be necessary, try replacing the tube in your lite as well dont know how old the 1 u got off me was , they lose most of thier useful light output after 8 months , a year(didnt know you would be having plants at the time) . a marine white would give a nice hue to ur tank i can tell you of a lighting wholesaler that will have these a lot cheaper than the lfs. other thing i have heard is that they like to have a bit of current around them so maybe point ur filter at them also. note: was in a drs surgery today next to eastgate mall the tank in there has the biggest jave fern ive ever seen the leaves are the size of my swords! but it has a big air pump with both outlets going into 1 tube and a silly ornament which lets up huge bubbles agitating the surface like a spa pool!
  2. glosso but its hard to grow, ask evil elmo to post pics of his dwarf sageteria carpet he used to have it ended up more like a sheepskin rug!
  3. we have two cats and our flatmate has a cat with 4 3 day old kittens, 2 rabbits, frogs and fish plus watever wildlife is out there lurking
  4. normally doin ane modification will result in less fuel economy as it can upset the fuel/air ratio and overfuel
  5. my books are all a wierd collection of philosophy and theology some with stories interwoven and some that dont make sense! i would join but i wouldnt want to send the wrong book to the wrong person somebody mite get offended
  6. it helped me explore the area beyond my house without getting on my bike and you can see what a big place redwood aquatics really is
  7. http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?ie=UTF8& ... cb592f06c5 map to my place please drive carefully into driveway as its hard to see trucks coming the other way ,farmer etc
  8. the purpose of the regulator and needle vavle before this is to be able to get the gas down to a managable pressure

i would put a cannister filter on instead if money was no object, a big 1 with a heater built in (or 2) gets the ugly internalk filter out of there (more natural looking, more room) the OEM filter is run by a 1000lph powerhead im sure this could be improved on
  10. buy a submersible pond pund (can get cheapies at the warehouse) have that in the water and piping going up to the sparay bar of the filter then sell the origijnal pump to recover costs
  11. you can get products that are a fine cut and polish for glass they work great
  12. that looks too good to put plants in front of
  13. i think minumum for goldfish is 25l per a fish but that obviously excludes the tall skinny tanks as they have very little surface area compared to the volume of water so the water will have less dissoved oxygen. 25l may seem like alot but many poeople who buy goldfish small do not know that they will get massive (and sadly many goldfish keep in bowls and the like do not last long enuff to grow big), secondly goldfish are messy so water tends to get polluted easyier so a larger volume of water slows . ur black moor will be fine just make sure he gets fed and has somewhere to hide
  14. i would like to go there 1 day i went to the kiwi house in oto they have a huge avaairy there are tuataras on the ground in there i nearly stood on 1  i could have easily touched it if i had been that way inclined
  15. http://www.petfish.net/articles/Aquatic_Plants/co2.php im pretty sure u can get small bell type diifusers somewhere there is also a spiral type
  16. i would go thicker if you intend to use MDF and using timber bracing with a tank that big
  17. i think they will be fine , a very good community fish not as aggressive as goldens and quite pretty as well
  18. the land version dosent like being wet all the time either didnt last long imn my frog tank
  19. u should be able to find them in nelson petshop from time to time maybe once you have set up the tank( pretty much same as for goldfish but you can have plants if u like coz they arnt gunna eat them) you could ask in private trade and exchange
  20. i see two options i wouldnt trust aerosol pesticides use a residual 1 so that bugs die shortly after contact use this outside the house too and?or get a rather large pitcher plant some varieties get really big position it near where they are getting in
  21. re water quality suspended particles will block light so a cleaner tank is much brighter another thing people forget is to clean the condensation covers on the tank and lights these being dirty can have a dramatic effect
  22. a red light is best , red florescent tubes dont work as well as incandescant lite(ever seen the red heat lites for reptiles) also leds may work .UV lites arent good for much in an aquarium unless its off the right wavelength to kill pathogens and somewhere inside a filter where u cant see it(they can blind you, different to the 1s they sell at flurmo!) the other thing is having tryed this myself a "blacklight" will only illumiminate about 5cm below it and is not very bright water and glass must filter the violet colour a bit
  23. id say they would be expensive mine are all cheap as on special 1s got the carpety 1s from a chinese type 2 dollar store and the rest on special less than $5ea, the 1s with the resin base arent too bad some are realistic even
  24. yeah thats the 1 plus you can take them out and clean them if they get covered in algae!
