  1. I never feed meat axolotls dont eat beef in the wild why feed them it in tank earthworms, bloodworm and live foods are the best pallets take a week or so to breakdown in the axies system.River sand is a good base to have and plenty of places to hide they also need at least a 50% water change weekly
  2. I wouldnt be feeding pellets to them at that size i wait till they are at least 12-14 cm as it take 7-8 days for the pellets to digest i feed my young pieces of earthworm and bloodworm these have more feed value to younger axies then the pellets do
  3. Yes we saw some of the laying happening, she did exactly as you said and laid about 20 eggs before having a break and laying them on another plant lol. Was quite awesome to watch for the first time.
  4. Hi there, My axolotl has just laid her first batch of eggs (120 odd of them), and since she stopped laying she hasn't stopped moving around the tank - swimming, walking around a lot... sometimes frantically. Is this normal behaviour? I have covered the tank so movement outside the tank and the light didn't disturb her but she is still carrying on with the same behaviour. Thanks for any help
  5. ants are all over my section i just placed a cup outside and within a hour it was covered in them as for the eggs i followed a line of ants and found there home poked around at it and found the eggs
  6. Tried feeding the adult ants with no result but i found some eggs and they were gone in a flash
  7. I have been breeding axolotls for a few years now the fish are feed as treat once a month on top of there diet of bloodworm , earthworm, pallets and once a month ox heart i have found that the axolotls enjoy the hunt of the live food and its interesting to watch them stalk there prey
  8. I was just walking round my section and im invaded with ants it got me thinking are they any good as fish food? has anybody tried this before
  9. it is a good food for them but only as a treat earthworms are the best food for there needs i feed mine four times a week pallets one day bloodworm the next and earthworms the other two days and once a month the either get a fish or meat as a treat a balanced diet is the best for them
  10. I am getting some guppys as feeder fish for my axolotls am i able to put them in the same tank as my comets i will be getting 4 guppys and feeding to my two axolotls one each once a month as a change in diet i just wondering if they can be kept in the same tank or do i need to set up a new tank
  11. I am looking into making a tank to see if it cheaper then buying a tank what i would like to know is have others done this, and is it worth while i would also like to be pointed in the right direction to places to get hold of glass Thanks
  12. I have some of this in my coldwater tank but my comets have been stripping it i have removed it but would like it to grow a bit what can i do to make it grow
  13. Temp is to high it should be about 18c for axolotls you could try covering the tank or floating a bottle of frozen water in the tank you should be doing a 20% water change at least 2-3 times a week the cut should heal by itself over time
  14. Today i pick up up these two i have never seen comets this colour before is it common white body with yellow round the head and fins Thanks Nathan
