  5. yea lol wont be used on this tank anemore just part of the stuff lying around the tank that ive stripped out of it
  6. well the background is finally in , i have passed on all unwanted fish and have the two clown loaches and pleco in with the goldfish (heater and cannister filter are also on the goldfish tank) water is finally in the tank and the third time around i managed to get the silicone to hold it in :bounce: the background is coated with roughly a kilo of coral sand and some blocks of oamaru stone for buffering will add more if there is not enuff so after a few water changes to get rid of the scum from the gravel and ane residues the clown loaches and pleco will go in (having become accostomed to a higher ph in the goldfish tank which has a coral sand fluidised bed filter and some coral in it) then get to get some cichlids yay
  7. yep you can use normal polystyrene but the thicker it is the more expensive its white gold! the latest back grond ive built i didnt use epoxy but ordinary acrylic house paint instead(thanks rockwork for the tips ) the ones i coated with epoxy however are far more durable and as solid as rock for a newt this kind of durability would be unnessacary. have a play around with different carving tools and rock or tree root types on scrap pieces first then once you have figured out what you want carve the good piece
  8. the first time i seen your 5ft tank there was mainly sand covering the bottom then a few months later it looked like the photo the results of co2 are quite unbelievable

    Filters

sometimes people use the reverse method as well as other filtration as it helps keep the gravel clean. both ways are great filters and are often underestimated

  19. limstone is calcium carbonate- my guess 64% carbonate . which is silly but calcium as a pure element rather than a salt is not much good to ane living creature
  20. i have a few ideas regarding the gravel to try now, im not actually too worried about vacuuming the gravel as currently all my tanks have white sand which is way worse to keep clean. at the moment im trying to source a big block of poly to carve got quoted $87 for the stuff i wanted but there is no way im gunna pay that ! i have a few tricks up my sleeve mite be able to get it for a few doz instead
  21. having a really good gp helps too for a year i was pushed back and forth between mental health services and my gp until i got a more respected gp who stood up to them.
  22. i keep my bb gobies in a tank with a mix of white sand and coral sand i have heard they like rocky areas but i guess if there is somewhere they can hide and call their own they will be happy
  23. when i work in the rubbish pit at work we have to cut cords off dumped appliances for the scrap metal value , one day i found an active sub woofer so i plugged it in and hooked it up to the stereo , it didnt work atll that well so i pulled out the speaker wires from the stereo . then i grabbed a steak knife (my side cutters were on the forklift ) and cut the power cord off to scrap it -- but it was still plugged in --bang ! it melted a groove in the steak knife i didnt get a shock but it scared me
  24. i cut slices off a corgette or use lettuce and put it in a cup of water in the microwave for a few mins then cool it down then it will sink and even the angels i used to have ate it
