I thought everything was under control, and they all had luxury conditions by now. Then this. What! He was in a hospital tank with girly. Who was the one with the problems... now she seems fine. Could it be too fast water flow? Girly was the same size and has those googly eyes too. Or maybe picked up original fungal condition, but for some reason succumbed wheras girly has gone on for weeks and weeks. No evidence of that though. Just a bit slimy. There is slime in this hospital tank. hmmm

i found a site that said lettuce, egg, other veges... what veges do people feed them? Also I know now to soak pellets or dip flakes first so that they don't gulp air. It's good to understand that the gulping of air can be a big contributor to balance / bloating disorders

Hi guys, Somewhere on the site I once found a post about all the things it's good to feed goldies. Um .. and now I can't find it. They love peas! I'm REALLY pleased to learn about peas. What else? ( Now they're inside and quite big I realize they're getting hungry more often. One recently got a bit blocked up because of greediness, so they fasted for a day. = 4 depressed mutinous fish staring at me from the same spot! )

wierdly... well, I decided to take him out. ( He's younger than three of the others, (two fan types, and one great big comet called copperguy), so now he's livinghappily in a giant hospital bucket with girly who I've decided is completely fine with her white sides.) Now wierdly, Copperguy is hovering near the ground in the same spot. Maybe It's just the best hiding place. I figure my fish are pretty well off for oxygen now. I might get a second tank later as they get bigger. There are four in about 80 litres, and then 2 in about 60. Or one day even a pool.. : ) but it would need to be built by me, because inheriting annoying ponds under trees that get too much sun, and leak is a complete nightmare.

As usual while looking for more info (about sexing goldfish) I've found my Answer in some previous posts by Caryl. ...who is saving New Zealand's goldfish from the plight of ignorant owners like myself. It seems that it's most likely that he is very stressed because I have too many fish. Now I'm thinking that there's a company in Auckland that provide big vertical fish tanks in waiting rooms all over town... I've been going on that... I guess their tanks are pretty big, but they often have about six fish in one tank. Not ok? I have three 1 year old fish and two younger in about 100 litre tank. Probably I'll move black moor out into another tank now I know this. (reformed fish-owner )

My little moor is hiding, he's fine, but behaves differently from the others and is smaller. He keeps going back to the same hidey-hole. He's useless at finding food and might be a bit stressed judging by erratic swimming, and sulking. ... I think. Shall I separate him from the others? How severe is this issue? Anyone else got info?

Just wanted to say that my fish are all happy and perked up in their new house, after several and various moves since I pulled them out of a manky pond a month ago. I decided salt treatment is best in a dip or bath form, as the salt doesn't leave the tank and girly was sulking with it. All my fish are clearly happier, and much thanks to everyone who's responded to all my questions.

Ok thanks very much. Tank is pretty new, and I've only seen one. But there will be siphoning from now on. THanks guys.

Thankyou for this one too. My too long in a bucket fish had quickly developed redness around fins and gils now much happier.

Anyone? is this a dangerous parasitic nematode? I thought everything was so good in there. Or are there different kinds of little red worms? eww Not cut out to be a fish scientist, but wish I was just for now. it was the size of a mosquito larvae, and flicking similarly. It was stuck in the gravel. I took it out, but should I treat for worms??

No we've been shifting house car-load by car-load with a toddler in tow who wants to mimic my 'fishing' and screams for the fish net. It's been days. The main posse were in a cramped bucket for a day, but there was a second quarantined fish, (Pearly) a pearlscale who's only crime wa to've lost a couple of scales who is looking a bit sick round the gills now but hopefully coming right. I've got five fish back in their big tank half filled with water because that's all we could carry from our new garage to final resting place. You see I'm learning quickly BUT didn't realize that they pollute the water so quickly. I've been doing water changes on buckets but not enough for Pearly. On my big tank I've had just a pump, with no filter. Just a waterfall from a bit of hose, and plants. But NOW I have a flash filter pump, all ready to go when I top up water levels, AND my hospital tank for Girly Is now a 60 litre bucket with filter pump and plants. Girly would like to thank you spoon personally (Girly is a girl goldfish who was bullied in pond recently developed a fungal ball on her dorsal fin which is gone but inexplicably has white sides. Just recently she's sulking again about her living conditions, and threatening to stop moving at all. oh yeah, no, I don't have a heater. What goldfish want pump and filter? This one with the white must be on the way out, but then it could just be overfed... whichever it's alternately screaming "help me" through the glass or sinking. Or it could be shocked from inappropriate water changing... So to try and help it? First step? ph? In a new large bucket with filter, tomorrow morning? Thanks spoon! Yeah I understand. Ah valuable feedback yes :oops: I just didn't expect this, it's all happened rather quickly. I will not use that word again. right.... 20 litre bucket, more plants, um, pump um filter... no I did mean pump, filters then times two. temperature what sort of temperature is preferable for goldfish and/or blackmoor? Mine is 22C. oh blimmin... trying NOT to torture the fish.
