    The What's Up? thread.

This is me most of the time recently...
  2. They should learn it's food pretty quick, and anyway, looks like you have other fish anyway. Don't mean to try to talk you out of selling it, hehehe.
  3. How is community plus not suitable? Pretty much everything but your plants should eat it.
  4. Huh, when I was a kid my school science fair rules specifically ruled out the use of any vertebrates in the experiments.
  5. I shouldn't just skim over posts. I thought you meant the pictures of the red betta were posted by someone named Fred. And yeah, they come out only about 1/3rd of my screen width. Man, shrink this screenshot down this much and it becomes completely unreadable. I forget sometimes I'm on a 4k screen.
  6. What are your plants? If you've bought them at a pet shop a lot of them probably aren't even aquatic plants.
  7. If you want them smaller then resize them, or crop them. His are about the right size, maybe could even do with being bigger if they're good quality pics.

    New Tank

I'd say 2-3 would be good for a tank that size. Leave you some room for other fish too. Mine were never very aggressive except a bit to their own species. Probably one of my two favorite fish.
  9. That sounds fair, it's just the power head you'd want anyway.

    My garden pond

Nice ghostfish in the first pic.
  11. You're getting a message that the file is too big because the file is too big. You need to make it smaller. Change the camera's resolution, or resize the pictures. Or upload the photo to somewhere like photobucket.
  12. Yeah...if you tap "click to choose files and then tap camera it even lets you take a pic right then and autamatically uploads it...like this.
  13. We did say bugger the cats. Can check on them tomorrow. Everyone seems fine. Haven't seen the bichir though. And the powerhead started up fine. Most of the damage was done by me yanking on the drain valve of the FX-5 and pulling it completely out. Imagine a big fat guy squatting next to a tank with one thumb jammed in a hole in the bottom of a filter and his far arm flailing around trying to wind its way through the stand to turn off the valves. Managed to quickly figure out the plumbing to get the FX5 to pump water out of the tank. Might have to do that from now on, seems to pump faster than my big pond pump even.
  14. Ugh...power outage last night at 11pm. Still wasn't back by the time i had to leave for work at 6am fish looked ok. Power expected back by 9am. Unplugged the filters so they won't fill the tank with anaerobic crap when the power comes back. Powerhead should keep it airated. Should be back by 5 or so... but sometimes it doesn't start if it's a bit jammed up with leaves. Almost to work...oops have to pick the wife up from the wife from the airport at 7. Ok...should be home by 8. Oh now she tells me one of her friends is on vacation so we have to sit and watch a movie with her cats because they'll be lonely. So any bets on if there are any fatalities?

    Repashy Food

I'm on my second order of community gel everyone seems to like it. And grabbed some of the woodivore or...whatever I can't remember the name and I'm too lazy to walk over and check. The community gel was a totally different texture this time, last batch was much coarser and green, with different colored flakes in it. This batch is a uniform, fine brown powder. Anyway, Everyone loves the community gel, I grate it up so it's in little wormy looking pieces and freeze it in icecube trays. I have 5 trays total including trays of the bottom feeder stuff, and a dehydrator running on another batch to see how that works.
  16. And galvanized snails, zinc coated snails, there are even liquid snails!
  17. Yes, they'll change colors.

    Storing NSW

If it would last you a year, why not do something like load the container up with live rock? Put a few powerheads in for circulation and airation then you can get a lot of pods growing in there that way to be fed into your main tank. Just seems a waste to have it sitting just doing nothing

    What snail is this?

Looks like your standard Malaysian trumpet snail.
  20. Yeah, 2000 might be a little low, you could go with a 9000 LPH, but you generally don't need huge amounts of flow through a sump. Also with 9000 liters per hour through the sump and overflow in my experience your life would likely be SSHHHHSHSHSHSHSHSHGLUGLGULGUGLBUBBLEGLUGGSSSHHHSHSHBLUBLG SSSHSHSHSHSHSHWOWOOOSOSSHHBLUBLUSGLUGLSULGSHHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSH SHSHSHSRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGUGLGULGUGLSBUGBBSwhatdoyouwantglubglubfordinner? 21. Especially if it's clad in ply that's screwed to it well enough to add strength...That's going to be nicely overbuilt.
  22. Depends, what kind of tank is it? Freshwater? Marine? Fish that like a lot of current, fish that don't like much? Planted? What's the head height from the sump to the main tank? Making some wild guesses, I'd say something like a 2000lph or so return pump and something like Jebao RW8 size powerheads for the main tank. Should be good for about 5X turnover from the sump to the main tank and about 25X turnover from the wavemakers.
  23. Why'd you make 3 sides taller than the fourth?
  24. I'd be worried that you're using too thin of glass or your drilling is weakening the glass too much if it's cracked. What are the pane's dimensions and thickness?
