  1. Can't say with authority since I don't know that club and its members, but all clubs and club events I've gone to the general consensus is the more the better.
  2. Check you have all the hoses and fittings tight. I have the 1200s, so I'm assuming it's basically the same. Mine will start gurgling a little when they're clogged up, or the intake strainer is clogged. I figure the fittings just being press fit start sucking a little from the suction due to a clogged intake strainer. But, I'd also suggest pulling it apart again and make sure you reassembled it right.
  3. I agree protest with this finding, they are very much definitely not schooling solitary fish so prefer dislike being solitary in groups.
  4. My suggestion would be to ignore the scratches. To do it properly you'd need to completely tear down the tank. I can't think of any time I've seen someone happy with the results though I'm sure there have been. Also, there are heaps of sites selling cerium oxide, here's just one: http://www.sauvarinsglass.co.nz/glass-tools-and-supplies.html

    new fish

    Get a bigger tank.
  6. Seems most people have the opposite experience, water clears up when they start using rain water. All I've ever used is rainwater, but after the first few years I've had barely more than a few stray bits of algae in my tank.

    Repashy Food

I tried out a sample batch. None of the fish seemed particularly interested. Was all gone after an hour or so, though. Might be they just don't know how to react to it. I'll buy a bigger batch, see how it goes . Once I get around to buying a batch.
  8. Huh, normally that just results in them becoming shorter...

    GOURAMI INFO

Huh, Just checked, they are. Both in the gourami family: Osphronemidae. Never thought of that before.

    Repashy Food

I'm sorry, I don't think I can bring myself to buy a food called, "Bottom scratcher gel" :slfg:
  11. Hmmm, Of my hobbies I'm going to say my tank is probably the last of them I'd want to be in. I can't swim or breath water.
  12. Water changes. And more water changes. Your tank was not already cycled? It's generally advised not to put discus in anything but a well settled older tank, certainly not a new uncycled one.

    pleco poo!!!

Java moss doesn't control it, it just collects it and turns into a giant mass of poop waiting to spew out crap and debris at the slightest touch.
  14. 1°is fine. You're giving yourself the anxiety. :nilly: :slfg: Wouldn't bother now that you seem to have the heaters set right. I'm not convinced there is a problem. Tank warms up a tiny bit during the day, cools a tiny bit at night. A little bit of fluctuation is not a problem, the problem appears to be you staring at the thermometer microanalyzing every 10th of a degree change. :slfg:
  15. Set to 26 degrees according to the absolutely useless better off guessing poor accuracy scale on the side? Or 26 degrees actually measured? Solution: Turn it up a little. If you really want it good and reliable get a temp controller. Overkill for a tiny tank with a couple guppies. Or just swap all the media, instant cycle.
  16. I have this really fancy water producing device in my kitchen called a tap. My house is supplied by rainwater, so I just match the temps.
  17. Well, No and yes. It would heat extremely well. Then it would explode and stop heating properly.
  18. You said they were 1.5cm. Barely more than fry, anything that young tends to be pretty delicate.
  19. No, and yes. Though africans in general are one one of my least favorite groups of fish, barely ahead of goldfish. So, what am I missing here that implies bloat? It seems an oddly specific diagnosis for small losses introducing fish to a new tank.
  20. That's a pretty wide range, if yours was at the high end and the other was at the low end. Also, I'm still not seeing why you think they have bloat? All that you've said simply implies you took a bunch of delicate young fish, poorly acclimated them to a fairly large difference in water conditions and a few died. I'm surprised it was that few.
  21. What were the parameters of the old and the new tank? An hour isn't really that long of a time to acclimate, especially for fry, especially especially if the water is significantly different which is a major possibility for Africans. I generally do more like 2 to "Ok, I'm bored this is long enough" hours.
  22. I wouldn't pay anything, I have enough of them. I'd expect for that size maybe $10ish?
  23. There's already a green cheeked parrotfish...
