  1. I had the exact same thought. Well not the socks part but how to get them home. $4 for the ping-pong sized ones. Very cool pets.
  2. Hi all, just got back from 2 weeks in Oz. Had a great time but as awlays... glad to be home. Done all the touristy things you can with a little one. Zoo, museum etc. Oh and every pet shop i could find. One thing i noticed, they all stocked male Bettas in tiny little containers with a small amount of water. the poor things. But i did see some neat creatures like the hermit crabs and their coloured shells in the 1st pic. 2nd pic is some very large carp that were happy to swim close to the little one's fingers. 3rd is a large lungfish. There were a few in the tank and they had them in the nocturnal exhibit. Only a couple of minor things with my fish, one neon with a white lump by it's tail. One neon with a slight bend in the back and a cloudy eye, having trouble swimming so will take out soon. And my big female cory has white along the dorsal fin like it's been nipped at. If i can catch her i will put her in a smaller tank but they swim like lightning.
  3. WELLLLLLLL........ I think she is preggers. She is still big in the belly but now has a distinct black part towards the exit. The bummer part is, we're going to OZ for 2 weeks tomorrow and probably wont see any babies. Theres heaps of java moss in the tank but also hungary (big) mouths. Oh well,, thems the breaks.
  4. Forgot to mention,,, i'm away for 2 weeks from tomorrow. Time to have a holiday with huby and our wee one. :bounce: yay
  5. I would come down for a sunday. I work nights and have Sunday off.
  6. Her belly is still slightly swollen, but looking normal as can be
  7. yes it has, and the male is chasing her round the tank like mad now. poor girl, bet she wishes she was in the container again.
  8. Thats what happened to my platy. A yellow blob came out attatched was a white puffy-stringy thing. Then she seemed to get better.
  9. Well..... shes back in with the others today. She had passed something?? Dont know what tho. Maybe a worm?? This morning she looked better, she's eating again, wanting to get out of the container, fins still clamped a little but i figured i'll give her another shot. The male was hanging around her alot yesterday, perhaps that encouraged her?? Anyway, fingers crossed she'll come right as we go on holiday next week.
  10. Yeah, its getting longer. Her fins are clamped to the sides too. Not good.
  11. I think she's popped the insides out. Are they like cats and dogs in a sense, that they need to be introduced into new foods slowly? Just a thought.
  12. It kinda looks like her belly is coming out of her butt now. Will keep an eye on her all night, I now have a spare tank to put her in.
  13. hmm, 5 days at that size ............ i'm just not too sure as i've never had these before. Will they eat peas? Thought it was only the coldies that ate veges.
  14. No, i had a guppy that got dropsy but it happened alot faster than this. I also thought constipated? Still the same this morning. She's quite contented in the container so i'l leave her in there for a few days to see.
  15. In my previous post i wrote about 3 girls having huge bellies. Well the other 2 have shrunk back to normal, but the biggest girl is still huge. She has been spending these last few days hiding down the far corner away from the others, no plant cover, not eating. I have my fingers crossed she's just preggers so have put her in a makeshift floating container along with a (bent backed)guppy for company. I know the pics are slightly blurry but you can get the idea on how big she is. I also noticed while trying to photograph her a very slight dark spot at the back that wasnt there when i 1st noticed them all.
  16. i have polished paua pieces in my tank as i have opted for a dark gravel and it looks great. Ppl told me over time it would alter the PH but my guess is the fish will have a long time to get used to it. I just soaked my driftwood in a bucket and scrubbed well to get the sand and nasties out. be careful with the kina tho... fish kebeb.
  17. I have those ones from the supermarket that stick on the outside of the glass. I have one at each end of the tank and theyre pretty accurate. I double check with hubbys multi-meter every now and then. Those glass ones have given me grief with wrong readings.
  18. thanks for that, i have some java moss in the tank tied to drift wood that the baby gups take refuge in. i'll just keep an eye on them. The largest girl i was worried about looked like a guppy i had that died from dropsy. Xept this girl hasnt got the pine-cone look.
  19. I have never had platies before but swapped some fish and got given 4 females and 1 male. The male is huge, 4-5cm and the females are only 2cm with 1 at 1.5cm. The smallest and 2 of the other females have in the last 2 days gotten really huge bellies. Like theyre about to burst... Huge. The threads i have read all indicate preggers but none of them have a gravid spot. Although some of the pics i have seen look similar. They are in my community tank with guppys and greedy gouramis.
  20. i had a similar thing with the pair i brought. Was told they are VERY suseptical [sp?] to just dying. They are neat fish but i have had more success with pearls. They are more inquisitive and put on a show at feeding time.
  21. yeah thanks for that, $121 for storage. Think we'll just have to bite the bullet
  22. Hmmm, a taxi from Wanganui might be a bit too costly. Whats the flyer?
  23. Is there any services for parking your car close to Welly airport? Its going to cost us a bomb to park there and someone told me there was a service where ppl came and got your car and dropped it off when you returned. We're away for 2 weeks next month. Thanks
  24. i used wunder tonic to treat white spot on some tetras and have 6 corydoras in the tank. they didnt mind.
