  1. So I'm deducing that: There were no sun-burnt teenage boys, or is it just that the observation ratio may have been bias. Writhing in their beds no less :
  2. My Bulu's are between 4-5cm. Just growing them out.
  3. My 2 cents. #1 is panaque sp, so logic would make it "tiger plec ". Head shape is first thing for me that says panaque. As for 'L' number if my memory serves me L226 was the best guest lookalike to that fish so L226 is still not a qualified ID. L270 should be easy to distinguish from L066 just by base colour alone, let alone patterning, and lyre tail of L066. 2 BN and so is #3.
  4. have never seen either here. "leopard frogs" and the plethora of other plecs with peckoltia pseudonyms have all been panaque species except "Sabaj" which was brought in as peckoltia and is. Now known as hemiancistrus. The only reason any of the panaques get disscussed as peckoltias is the creative names given by importers and both fish end up about same size(the panaques previously known as panagolus do). Not sure in fact what if any peckoltia species have been brought in. (please no one come back with pretty peckoltia) L201: might have come in when other hypans like L102, L270,L066 came in a few yes ago but perhaps that is long shot and know of no one keeping them as that
  5. I wonder how many deaths in shipping are attributable to heat loss versus lack of O2 and incorrect packaging. Not that I wouldn't recommend them and I do use them but the lack/loss of heat-especially this time of year- would be low on my worry list. I don't feed fish for over a day before shipping, have as few fish per bag as practical and have only as much water as is needed and as much air as I can in both bags. As long as the courier doesn't muck it up -is always my worry
  6. I drop my parcels off to the NZ courier depot in Botha(?) St Penrose. Need to be there by 7pm for nxt day delivery, so means I can pack at 5.30pm and fish arrived 15-16hrs later.
  7. Nice fish, would be interesting to see how many young would take on red. good luck. but Dwarf puffers would be low on my list for tankmates
  8. if you had to have how about a nice bowl or vase with a pair of colourful fighters, you wont need heater till april
  9. As it is Christmas I feel somehow compelled to say "I love all my little children equally" But in a weak moment of desire I must admit to coveting My males peacocks the most.
  10. How about a group of 5 leleupi's to start. Instant breeding program!
  11. #3 is Baryancistrus Species LDA33, "Snowflake" Pleco
  12. Goldie-Scobiancistrus Aureatus I have also seen L253 'scobi' labelled "goldie" plec. So many people start to describe their nuggets as their goldy that it is bound to confuse as they look similar to many.
  13. Niveatus will be aggressive like a mango and other baryancistrus. As for pretty peckoltia all I can say is at least they have kept consistent as last time a fish came in with that name they were maccus. $40 bucks is a good price. As for "starlights" . An example of responsible IDing and not. Mr Pleco has bred them and with all research cant be drawn into an definitive ID although I'm sure he would give you a good guess. But still a lovely little fish. I hope HFF aren't calling other Rio Ucayali as that name has been drawn from the ether of guesstimate forum threads and it is a shame if they have. they would be guilty of using it for purposes of marketing and definitely not for fact.
  14. When you wonder what they might like for Christmas
  15. My favourite city, home of David and the Name of my very Kiwi daughter. Although I do like the 'fire' NZ interpretation that a few have addressed me as.
  16. You think the tank is cool. Do a profile search on the fish! http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/2 ... l=-1&id=53
  17. Well done on your Cuckoo's Eben. What was the host fish? How big is the setup? host and synos? Fry grow quickly, I have 3- 4cm juvis at 6 wks old, feeding "Viking' Discus granules because of its high protein. I have had 3 batches now and an currently Empress holding something but every spawn in last mth has produced cuckoo fry so worth considering collecting any holding female in the future if you want to ensure fry survival. here is the earlier thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42232 As for the spelling thing- Sow greyps maybe
  18. Yeah-used to be more varieties around few yrs back. The colony is 2 yrs old . Alpha male is 12cm. Females are fat as! Bought a turnip today to make some infusoria. Feeding them on live slaters since I got them. forgot how fun rainbows are when feeding
  19. I got 9 of these guys on the weekend. 4 males and 5 females Settling them in at the moment. I had a mixed rainbow tank a few years ago and always liked these guys so will am keen to give breeding a go
  20. P44's 'Flathead gold nugget' is a L067 another terrible made up name from importer. sorry for confusing you with P44 Kiwi. Any counselling you need as result i will pay for
  21. I've kept these plec with Africans like your (haps, peacocks, yellows and dems but no bigger mbuna like ice blues) with no issues. Blue Phantom, Royal panaques, Sabaj, Cochliodon, L25 scarlet and L114 Cactus, even big old BN. P44's gold nuggets would be OK, as would Mango plec. Only one though as they are very territorial and if memeory serves then P44 thinks he has pair which would be ok. Pictus cats - you would need more than one. The ice blues would be only concern for me as they would be looking to inhabit the same territory and are big enough to Badger a plec enough to cause stress and stress is not good for plecs, I know of a mango for sale at the moment and that would be one of my first picks for your set up. Gbas of a good size look good in african tanks due to the high key colour.
  22. If the dog harmed the cat on the cat's (owner) property then I would say then you would apportion responsibility to you as dog owner. Difficult though. The same logic would dictate that if the cat was on your property and was chased by the dog who then received bad scratches to the face as a result and required Vet attention then the cat owner should pay. would they or would they say the dog deserved it even though it was on its own property?
  23. Yeah! definitely maybe I'd say.
  24. yeah could be any number of fish, here are a couple of genus that do live in that area so could be contenders. I'm talking more about the larger colourful fish. http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/re ... hp?genus=7 http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/re ... p?genus=42 http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/re ... ?genus=203 Check this site has list of tropical fish of Guatemala with pics and descriptions http://fish.mongabay.com/data/Guatemala.htm There are several characiformes listed that could fit the tetra type fish. Probably less like from this group but still a bit of fun in looking http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/re ... ?genus=227 http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/re ... p?genus=11
  25. . imagine a big tank with them eyebiter's and other nimbo's. That boy was easy 20cm and would take a 6cm fish as food as I once found out. This was him when before I added a group of giraffes and after that he coloured up great. Nav-good to know. would be keen to give them ago eh?
