  1. Yes nice fish The ID and the way it has been achieved worries me. I see that there was plenty of 'looks like' and 'good guess' on the PC ID post but not too many 100% sure. I could see that an argument for the fish being the same as others in threads looking for ID. Perhaps a lot of wildcaughts of same species getting to different markets around the world at the same time frame makes sense. But are they Rio Ucayali?. Where is any evidence or no mater how speculative that they were even sourced from that river? Are they yet another species of many ancistrus that have that pattern type. Are you going to commit to that name? If so what lengths are you willing to go to ensure that all of those fish that came in are also designated to that name since they came in as something else. Would you see any problem with the same fish having different names. If it came in from the importer I suspect it has I would suggest it would be given as a creative name as possible, especially if that were correct. The fact it didn't could in itself mean it's ID is unknown. The fact that ID questions for similar fish on PC start with yet another designated name to me builds up a situation of a spotted ancistrus with no real knowlege of its origin but that has similarity to known species of known origin. Just throwing in another view. Cool little fish for sure.

    L200 shot

    L200 shot

Shot this guy and he flared beautifully, so thought I'd share.
  4. Cheers! Copadichromis Azureus male in net lon the towel. I was transporting back from a breeding tank to display tank so took the shot and as you say it does display shape and colours well. The double fish shot is other male in display mode as he tries to deal with his mate back. I just laid the fish down tail first still in net on towel and he looked great without touching him. Took less than 30 seconds.
  5. No worries phoenix. These guys breed well and have fry coming through all the time. Have all sorts of fry at the moment.
  6. I have a big grandaddy too at about same size. Where did you get the BN you talking of. Unless its new stock i would suspect like mine they are just the result of mixed BN's and the chances of IDing them as specific is very small. Rather that it is just an individual that looks like something but thats not to say it isn't showing traits of its distant origin. My thoughts anyway
  7. Had the camera out earlier.
  8. I will try to get some shots for you. i have about a dozen adults 4-5m and 7-8f. They vary from almost black with small light dots through to tan with mottles. None were ever designated as anything specific. Plan is to breed the tan ones together. Interested to hear your theory
  9. They are L136. They only get to 8-9cm
  10. Right! When i stripped Electra the syno fry were almost sac free but electras were far from done. My understanding is that syno fry hatch in 3-4 and are predating on host fry almost immediately. The amount of electra fry left and size of syno fry would indicate female was very close to spitting anyway. It was rather brutal watching the synos in the net all over elctra fry that had no defence to offer. Fry have been in 15ltr tank for few days. Doing bucket change every 2nd day with 1/2 new and 1/2 green water and was trying all sorts for food although seem to like novotab a lot! just shy of 2cm
  11. Got 2.5 kgs out of Port Waikato over weekend. 300grams first scoop.
  12. Food and water condition also can clean up colours in L066, but they can muddy up when mature. Choccy's are cool indeed and I will get a colony but these are still my favourite Hypans beside L046 or L400, and they stay small like zebs. The young are growing well so hopefully my disaster last year can be forgotten shot of friends L400 when it was young
  13. Guppies Platy's Mollies Kribs Sort of did everything themselves while I watched Jewel cichlids-best parents for size by far Bristles noses Golden black eyed ancistrus Hypancistrus species L136 Sort of did everything themselves but I did give them a cave so I couldn't watch. Cuckoo synodontis ( fry two weeks so will list them) Archocentrus Sajicas EBJD X Jack Dempsey but have officially given up on EBJDXBGJD Laetacara curviceps- dwarf flag cichlids gave them away because there seemed to be heaps around but haven't seen any for a while Neolamprologus pulcher-Daffodil cichlid Iodeotropheus sperengae-Rusty cichlids Demansonis Electric yellow- nothing stink about tank full of these fry Otopharynx lithobates Protemela Sp. Red empess Placidochromis Electra Copadichromis Azureus Copadichromis Borleyi Kandango Scienachromis Fryeri Aulonocara Species: Baenschi Maleri Jacobfriebergi Chilumba red flush Rubescens Playing with Columbians tetras at the moment Would trade most all of them to get 4 yr colony of 5 L 128's blue phantoms to breed
  14. I think that in a 400ltr tank it would be hard not to get a fair degree of current. the Fx5 does 3500-4000lts and hr so you are cycling your tank 9-10 times an hr which is great. Personally though I dont think its optimal for a discus set up, because the filter would be overkill. I would suggest that even with only one medium cannister and 10% water change 2-3 a week the Discus and plants would do better. You could probably get two smaller cannisters using less room than fx5 with outlet/inlets at at each end of the tank for same or probably less $$. Put that FX5 filter in a 1000 ltr tank and different story, as I would recommend that piece of kit to anyone.
  15. Personally for that set up I would be tempted to go two smaller canisters, so you get the filtration without such an effect of flow. I have a 5ft with FX5 and and is great for malawi's as it means I can go ages without worrying much about water changes/ cleaning filter. I also have a 300ltr 4ft with a fluval 404 and eheim 2213 cannister which has housed Discus and was great as had awesome filtration with little flow. It now has big fancy plecs so again is well suited. End of the day regular water changes is what will make any Discus tank excell.
  16. as of this morning 7 fry with yolk sac gone and electra fry eaten.
  17. Cheers! for comments. The electra female was tumbling a lot and seemed very full after 4 days holding so was a little hopeful up to stripping. Have a empress female doing much the same at the moment, though I will let her go full term to find out this time. I definitely have two pairs of cuckoo's out of 7. Both pairs seem to congregate as the malawi's spawn, and both take runs at spawning malawi.
  18. I was plenty cuckoo enough before Mark!
  19. this was footage shot a couple of weeks ago- excuse that it is upside down. I can't seem to rightside it. Stripped the electra female today and have about 8 of these little guys. The smaller fry are the electras. All are now in fry trap.

    FX5 Question

If you are meaning the "u" bend moulding that the hose can clip to- then yes you should be fine. There is about a 15-19mm gap to slide the moulding with hose onto the glass. You might need to pad it if glass is thinner.
  21. wasn't my opinion and indeed my perogative to question your assumption valid based on your point. I'm sorry if that has offended. Not Playing Devil's advocate because someone may be offended is not healthy. I can see that there is an argument for your ID based on the image but... The point as you say is whether you want to steer someone in a direction of an ID based on a "not much doubt" premise. I would have thought the more scientific and responsible conclusion would be not to ID a fish as something when it comes from an environment of hybrids. Your perceived thoughts on negativity or paranoia are noted but seem erroneous.
  22. so couldn't be, FryeriX, Ahli or Ahli X, Azureus X or lithobates X.
