  1. Rule of thumb is with filtration is cycling water 4X, so you need to double yours. With piscivores like giraffes in the tank fry will be eaten, if you are looking to just let them be in the tanks. A lot of rockwork would might protect some for a while. As Ryan suggested earlier the only real way to be sure against hybrids is a seperate breeding tank, and then the fry would have to be well grown before they could be introduced to main tank. FYI- fry are the final result of spawning and brooding stage. eggs-then fry
  2. Yes to that combo. I would think a robust peacock like Red shoulder might have a show in that setup. I male to 4 females would be good. As for breeding- chances of fry surviving is very low in that tank anyway

    YES!!

Nice Discus Adodge! This is a shot of a White diamond of friends of mine. They didnt feed any colour enhancing food to get colour out of it. it was in with 5 yellows and Teffes.
  4. Sweet! My daughter has a snorkel set and needs the practice- she's only small so won't damage much
  5. I guess they mean they will be asking appropriate questions if you asked them to bag you up a couple, to at least see that you know how to keep them, and have the right tankmates. I'd say that 50% of the fish stock they hold are more sensitive fish and more prone to die from inadequate conditions than Zebs, so at the end of the day if a punter has the inclination to buy one I can't see much point in refusing them because of a 'perceived' ability to care for them. If that were the case fish like Discus or blue rams would never be sold . As for group idea. it wouldn't work. A breeding program would be best if they were grown out together and let a heirarchy form in the colony. Popping a bunch a together as sexually mature adults is fraught with disaster. I think I'll hang out for some of davids L204 babies.
  6. Pair of dwarfs or rams probably only option. There are some wicked tang shell dwellers newly around but I think they are all spoken for. I have some kribs that I want rid of. your welcome to have them free.

    YES!!

Discus are good in Two's or groups of 5 or more. With 3 you run the risk of one being a 'third wheel' and getting picked on particularly if two pair up. Diamonds ( white and blue) are Sensitive at the best of times also.
  8. I was more smitten by the tank of shell dwellers- didn't say what they were but looked like some sort Lamprologus Ocellatus. Zebs did look good though. nice blue to the white.
  9. Agreed. Rams are not a fish for beginners, and not a fish you should just 'plop' from one environment to another. The best any of us can do is be fair minded in such cases, and the fact you are even questioning your liability in this situation shows you are. I have done the same as Smidey in as much as replacing fry/juvies if they have perished quickly after sale, but that was because I had extra fry to give, and believe in the benefit of doubt. On the other hand. I have had the situation where fish already paid for have arrived to me by courier in over crowded leaky bags, males in with females, 1/2 the fish almost dead, the other 1/2 barely moving, and was told in time by seller that I had clearly done something wrong in acclimatizing them so no refund or replacement fish. Funny how quickly the focus of fish who would be pets invariably turn into "Lost money" when dead- to seller or buyer You never can tell I guess. I think LA's advice is a prudent approach.
  10. Looks very nice ! Plecs looking very healthy. Your LDA has 10cm more to go yet. What happened to your L018 Phoenix?

    Unwell EBJD

I would be doing a low dose test run on any meds for EBJD. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=44991
  12. That is why Facebook has no emoticons Welcome to the forum Jambls.
  13. Depends on their age, but even a young pair will team up almost the moment they are put in the same tank. look for a pair to start housekeeping- tending to potential laying site. Swimming toward and bowing to each other.
  14. Keep an eye on that mix. Turqs can be moody little beggars and one Cobalt may get picked on. discus are funny like that. Triangles aren't necessarily good for them. As said above go for a pair or go for 5-6. That may change of course depending on sex. Rule of thumb was 1 discus per 50 ltrs, but maybe less as your tank has lots of water for that length, so if One of those three gets picked on I'd be looking to get more in there asap. Haven't been into Pupuke Aquarium(Pupuke rd) for quite a while, but worth a look as he used to have Rons discus.
  15. Or you have a divider. In nature it is called the Atlantic Ocean . Not a good mix
  16. EBJD are very sensitive fish at the best of times, probably as a result of their genetic make up. The percentage of sterile EBJD's and decendants is high for the same reason. I almost lost one when doing a low dose prazi in it's tank. Just lucky that I give a 'test' and not normal dose. Experience has taught me to tread carefully when covering new territory. Something for EBJD keepers -and other fish where man has already played a big part of their existence- to keep in mind. Sorry for you loss Jaxxnz.
  17. Apistogramma Sp. 'Steel Blue' is often sold here as "Borelli". Not sure of their history but one of the Apisto clan on here will know more
  18. My bigger haps having been chowing down on live crickets of late. They also get slaters regularly. I tend to feed them only as treats to my africans as it is mixed tank, but a few at a time and the eyebiters, copas and nimbo get them before the peacocks, labs etc even know whats happening.
  19. Try putting in acave to see if he like that better. Pvc pipe or I use bamboo of about 6cm internal diameter. Water change and try 27 degrees. That what works for me.
  20. once ( as in 'upon a time in the west')
  21. Also you could try Image>adjustment>shadows/highlights and play there or Image>adjustment>selective colours-select neutral colour and reduce black in it. once again have a play. sorry- just read dates so my post redundant If I remember CS2 has both these tools.
  22. Your Syno is a hybrid. Perhaps 'ocellifer' X something. Spots and adipose fin doesn't look right but that could be angle of photo. A kinked leading ray to Dorsal fin is a key indication to a hybrid Synodontis
  23. ...Like this article. Actually interesting even if you don't http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/m ... nk_pt1.php
