  1. sorry to hear about this. do you get time off work? if so use it to get those rams breeding and producing fry that stay alive
  2. As mentioned in an earlier post today here are some of my crowntails that are only a couple of months old, plus a pic of an adult male I was given to see how he went. The young fish are the third generation I have bred. The original parents were an imported male and a female I had also bred. Young blue/black male Young red/blue/black male Young multi colour - not quite as good crowning females and the adult male
  3. Hi, sorry I haven't read this thread since I last posted on it. Squash the snails against the side of your tank - it reduces the population fairly fast. While clown loaches will happily eat the snails they are suseptible to white spot. Neons are happiest in a minimum of 6.
  4. What else are you putting in your tank i.e. fish food, plant food. Do you salt your tank? What sort of driftwood.
  5. There are no secrets safe around here
  6. bugger! But what about the yellows - I hear whispers that they spawned!! I bags first dibs on the fry when they get a little bigger - 1cm will do
  7. I have my vacuum attached to a full length of hose. I put it in with the hose attached and fill the vacuum with water. Turn it up out of the water to start the water running down the hose and then put it back in horizontly until the water is running in the vacuum and out via the hose at the same time then fully submerge it. Also takes about three seconds. Sounds hard but isn't. Trial and error works, whatever is the easiest for you and your tank size I guess.
  8. I only leave the lights on after my fish have laid the eggs, turn them down so there is a smaller amount of light. That way the adults can see and tend to the eggs. I only have kribs and fighters that lay BTW. I don't worry about it while I'm waiting for them to spawn.
  9. sorry, I know what you meant but I don't know enough about these fish to be able to help
  10. Exactly - so what sorts are there apart from cardinals, rummy noses. I have searched the internet but when I check compatibility not much matches.
  11. Is it okay to have these in the same tank, if not what other sort of algae eater could I use with the discus. Interested also in what other sort of fish people keep successfully with their discus apart from cardinals and rummynose.
  12. I need to have a go at breeding the rams too - only have one pair of each colour left now.
  13. Don't ask me, 3 out of the 4 times I've gone they have been closed, and the 4th time none of the fish in the tank I wanted were for sale because they had them listed on trade me. You're best to look under commercial and find the cellphone number because the hours on the door aren't the ones they stick to.

    Fish dying

google co-trimoxazole (generic bactrim), used for ear infections etc - my children used to take it a lot in liquid form.
  15. filter wool needs cleaning?

    Fish dying

Bactrim - Co Trimoxazole (think thats how you spell it).
  17. what do they look like, I have valves and bits & pieces everywhere that I mostly purchased in bulk lots?
  18. I would wait for others feedback on the item if I was you. Do a google search on the product if you can find it and see what is said about it. If the filter system etc is that cheap you may need to upgrade it anyway or if you can get hold of an address for them through previous buyers or whatever I don't mind going and having a look at it. IMO the cheap tanks that come in from overseas look great but don't stay like that for long.
  19. Why are you retrieving them? The breeder up here leaves then alone and the parents raise them themselves.

    New Discus

I just fixed my pics above, had pasted one twice. The orange one has developed the peppering over the last week mainly, really fast. Mind you he/she has grown a lot over the last few weeks too.
