  1. thats what I think too - as they get older and their fins are fully developed it must be very hard trying to rest and stay upright with fins that long.
  2. ... why some bettas - mainly males - lie on their sides at rest?
  3. For the first time in 26 years my husband is interested in fish - he loves the discus in the tank!!!!! I mention discus and get taken to all the pet shops in auckland where I get to buy everything I want. Its such a win its incredible :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  4. counts me out as a babysitter then - my tanks aren't big enough and I'm sorry but theres no way he's going in my discus tank!!!
  5. should have known better than to ask that question
  6. sure is, she was one of my first fighters, from the moment I got her she wasn't quite as active as the others.
  7. I had one of my females do that a couple of years ago, it was like she had had a stroke. She still ate and swam around for another 7-8 months before she got too thin and died.
  8. Hi, how old is he - does his body look twisted as well.
  9. are you willing to say where you got the parents from?
  10. approx 1 discus per 50 litres - that is what i have been told many times.
  11. Fighters can spawn every three days - great if you've got dozens and dozens of tanks and plenty of time. Its best to wait about 11 days between the spawns or you will exhaust the parents especially the male who does the egg sitting duties at night. Are you going to raise these?
  12. I'm no expert on gourami but from reading through this forum it seems to be a regular occurance with dwarf gourami (them dying that is).
  13. I use an oil column heater with a seperate plug in thermostat as a back up. I have it set to just take the chill off the room in winter/cooler weather. It hardly ever turns on.
  14. David, your setups looking really good - spawning must be going well. Let me know next time you are coming up this way. I'm always interested in adding to my fighters gene pool - both veiltails and crowntails.
  15. I sell the majority of mine through tm - a lot of the time they are snapped up as soon as I list if I put a buy now on - and I supply someone else. The ones I post pictures of are my breeding adults and they are never sold. Pet shops also buy in bulk - but I don't sell to them - they always look really bad after a week in the tanks. Anything not up to standard goes to feed bigger fish.
  16. lol: too late - way too late to stop now
  17. One of everything you have at your place
  18. They look just fine - my males would love to come and take the place of yours! They have to make do with very primitive living conditions.
  19. And woman complain about men being premature ...  Well if men didn't take so long getting themselves organised it wouldn't be a problem now, would it?
  20. I don't use it ever.
  21. read the following www.bcbetta.com Read Amazonians posts and the other betta posts. They will tell you what you need to know. and no not all males and females breed. They are like humans, not everyone is compatible. It is labour intensive, and you need lots of tanks. Make sure you only breed quality fighters, don't just grab any old male and female.
  22. I can't see a problem with adding a single female to the tank.
  23. I saw the balloon rams in ChCh and they don't really even look like the normals gold rams. I think they are ugly. Would be much better breeding the normal ones IMO.
