  1. Hi, I have kept angels, swords and guppies in a tank with a male fighter with no problems before. Angels and guppies aren't a good mix either for the same reasons. Guppies are just as likely to hassle the male fighter as the angels are. If they are getting along fine the fighter may be okay. If the tank is well planted it would be even better. It depends on the nature of each of the fish really.
  2. thought they were probably yours Ron Can't you at least list when I'm on line
  3. I'm guilty Billaney  I've been breeding fighters for a couple of years and kribs and guppies as well for the last 6 months. Did try to join once though but couldn't get a reply to my pms.
  4. on tm and I missed them  nice looking fish, where did they come from can I ask

    worms

not in my tank that I know of but I left a faulty used filter sitting on a bucket for about 4 weeks until I got around to dealing with it and when I took it out there were black worms about 1cm long wriggling all over the buckets bottom. no idea what they were but may be the same thing. i did wonder - bloodworms?

    Driftwood

Where do all the Auckland members go to get their driftwood - I'm talking big pieces not the smaller sizes in the pet shops. I used to go to Waterview for my smaller ones.

    New Tank

Thanks for the positive comments everyone. Plants really need to grow, there are 6 swords in the tank, getting two more discus and probably some schooling fish - not sure which to go with yet. Also looking for a larger piece of driftwood, went to some of the west coast beaches today but nothing there
  8. Yippee :bounce: :bounce:
  9. I put the substrate in first then place the rocks and driftwood. When I vacuum (every week)I lift the rocks and move the driftwood so I can clean thoroughly - yes I know that it is the harder option but at least I know that there are no spots harbouring muck. I vacuum as far down as I can around the plants until I reach the roots, I have several different sized vacuums from big down to pretty small so I can get amongst them. Takes ages but is worth it IMO.
  10. not a lot of people on most nights but if you pop in around 7.30 and hang around someone else usually turns up. Caryls normally there, Jude often and I've see bd spider, tsarmia, ira and a few others on there as well as myself but I struggle to get on about this time as its normally dinner here.
  11. You may be struggling to find a decent girl. I've been working on breeding for a while and its taken 2 years to get a good female, started off with a very nice ct male and a veiltail and gradually bred the females with other crowntails. Managed to get a fantastic male and the female was the progeny from that pairing - only managed one female though. Unfortunately I only get about 6 live fry from her each spawn and most of these are males.
  12. Those are one pair of very confused animals!!
  13. one nice fish and great they spawned so quickly for you
  14. Yep, its for my new discus and they need the water heated, never had cold water before. All my other tanks I do straight from the tap.
  15. I don't know that filter at all but would imagine that you could pretty much put what you wanted in if its designed at all like the other types of filters.
  16. They would be fine with stronger filters, I use my cfs on 106 litre tanks. It may depend on the actual dimensions, I'm not sure, but my tanks are 1200mm long and I wouldn't go less than 1000lph to keep them clean.
  17. definately interested as I don't want to bucket 150 litres of warm water from the kitchen to the lounge each week! Let me know
  18. I think the recommended rate is for the tank to cycle 4 times an hour - IMO more is better unless the fish are swimming backwards  or really can't handle strong current i.e. bettas. You can get a stronger filter and point the spraybar towards the glass rather than out into the tank to reduce the current. Most of my tanks cycle around 10 times an hour. Less filtration = more work Less Work = dirty tanks and they can harbour disease. I use CF externals on all my tanks, pet planet has them pretty cheap around $120 (I think) for a CF1000. Great filters, they do have a bit of a reputation due to a bad batch of taps but they are replaced fast under warranty.
