  1. did you add them at the same time as the discus or later? I have heard that if they are added later they make a great dinner dish.
  2. I would almost wonder if there is some residue of some sort on the glass of your tank. How old is your tank and was it new when you purchased it. Could it be something like the type of silicon used on the glass. Maybe its toxic when they graze over it or something. You don't have to have any type of algae eater in your tank, sometimes it just means a little more work. Apart from that I really can't help.

    Liighting

I know this topic is old but ... In laymans terms what do I need to get. I have two 4 ft Sylvania Growlux T8 lights on my 5ft tank plus another ordinary 4ft bulb. The plants seem to be growing fine but I would like more light on the tank. What should I get - please spell it out for me....
  4. Has anyone had the above together in the tank. Any problems, or suggestions. Still looking for some tankmates for my 6 discus. Keen on cardinals but wondering if they would get eaten.
  5. I thought you might be on holiday and not get my pm so was hoping that someone else might have known.
  6. Does anyone know if they are open tomorrow or Tuesday, if so what hours? Thanks
  7. I turn up with my polyboxes with 'live fish' written on all sides and the top. They have the fragile stickers and just put them on. Should not be a problem if you turn up with them. I'm going to my local depot on Tuesday with some and taking another person with me who also wants to send the fish to make sure they don't refuse him. The courier company was happy enough to sell me a book of tickets for shipping fish!
  8. Yes, NZ Couriers does, don't be put off when they tell you over the phone they don't. Insist that you know they do infact take fish all over the country.
  9. I don't but my son plays battlefield. He's in the 9th Rangers - for all I know some of you may be in his team.
  10. I use a thermometer when filling my discus tank and keep the water around the 28 - 30 degrees mark. For my fighters, guppies, kribs & bristlenose I use water straight from the hose.
  11. The courier companies are going to be busy shipping fish on Tuesday!!
  12. Nothing like being greedy - aye How did you manage to be allowed to get so many tanks etc. I thought you were only allowed 2.
  13. Hahaha - you again Ron!!!!!!! Its not a case of what you have but a case of what you don't have
  14. No, the guppies (51 of them), all went in one hit. It was the 130 odd kribs that took a while to go  I'll keep hold of these guppies for a while, they appear to be all female at this stage. Mind you I kept a pair of kribs as well Doesn't matter - I have three spare tanks at the moment
  15. lucky you - I can't keep them alive (the adults I mean). The only thing I can think of it that perhaps there needs to be a small airstone in the tank as well. However I would leave them alone as disturbing them is more than likely to cause a problem.
  16. I found something similar today but in the bottom of my cannister filter. About 3 weeks ago I sold off my guppies and moved my filter to another tank. Last Monday I closed down the tank and tipped most of the water out of the filter. Today I went to wash it out and in the bottom were 10 young guppies. They must have been in there for ages and are perfectly happy and healthy. (Currently swimming around the bristlenose tank).
  17. Is Pet Mania still open and what have they got left?
  18. Theres one at the moment in Jansens but a blue version. I quite like this colour.
  19. A few non specific ones IMO In my opinion IME In my experience BTW By the way I didn't know what these were when I started but I don't text much
  20. yep, you sure are wrong. only need roosters if you want chicks. the hens get a bit broody from time to time and decide to sit on their eggs, you just need to take them out and stick them in a small cage or box for a few days.
  21. Do what we did .... move north!!
  22. me too ... the next time one is on.

    Blue Rams

When I had the 4 pairs of rams the males were really stroppy and used to constantly have a go at each other, one would even take on the discus. However I only have 1 blue one left now and its a female.
  24. not a lot you can do about the driftwood leaching, it will stop eventually. regular water changes will help a bit. to load photos you will need to use a host ste, i use photobucket which is free and fairly self explanatory.
  25. driftwood may slowly leach but doesn't generally make the water cloudy makes it more a tea colour. new tanks often go cloudy, my 450 litre tank did for a couple of days before the filters sorted it out but it wasn't brown cloudy. What sort of sand?
