    New Discus

I can't remember, have to ask discusguru if he comes on - they are from him. He has sooooo many beautiful discus at his place
  2. Please can a very helpful person please give me the contact details of the person (mike fish I think) in Christchurch who sells the connector thing that you put on your sink tap and hose to do water changes. He's not advertising on tm at the moment. Thanks

    New Discus

I finally got my new discus today, only 4 of them for now. I think they are great. Heres the pics but I can't remember what they are. I got them from Ron and if he sees this he's sure to tell anyone who wants to know.

    New Tank

Finally got my discus today, I'm so so happy with them. The tank survived my being away although the plants didn't do much with the lights off for a week. Added a few val plants but I'm not that great at growing them. Heres some pics for you and this shot taken end on. Have posted pics of the discus in the cichlid section
  5. I've been to Asia a lot of times and as I stepped off the plane from Christchurch on Wednesday the heat and humidity reminded me of Bangkok!
  6. Hi again, have these guys and the gals produced yet?
  7. have some lovely cts but too young at the moment. sorry
  8. Glad to hear he's okay. On another note, we didn't make it to Blenheim or Nelson last week but I may try to come down to the conference as would love to meet you.
  9. My sister-in-law and family have lived there for 16 years, never been burgled, no problems, no worries, love it there. Her husband drives to the Uni in the mornings, takes 1/2 hr, leaves just before 7am. Home time 1/2 hr or a bit more, trains and buses good. Safer than other areas I would think, you don't hear much bad news about it. The key is patience in the traffic and as with other Auckland areas - don't be out late or in the early hours of the morning alone. Make sure your mates look after you. Closer in would be quicker to the CBD but more expensive to live as far as rentals go and not necessarily safer.
  10. that sucks, IME never trust a tradesmen. We have the houses where we live water blasted each year - they tell us no chemicals (enviro friendly) but what ever they use stinks of chlorine and wipes out all our small garden plants.
  11. nice tanks - love the driftwood, is it from the beach or a shop. I'm going on a big pieces of driftwood search on Wednesday.
  12. Yes you can keep them here - there are some at the school where I work. Try posting under the saltwater section. There are several members of this forum with them.
  13. Give them a few days (Probably a week) apart and try again. Males tend to get very nervous once they have been attacked. Are you sure the second one is a female and not a short finned male?

    New Tank

Not yet, going on holiday today & leaving non fishy son with all my tanks - have purchased only one discus so far and will wait until I return to collect it and stock tank. Lost a pair of gold rams (don't know why) but others are fine, plants appear to be finally starting to grow. Small amount of algae appearing on one of my rocks - not sure what type at this stage. pH fluctuating a bit but everything else is nil.
  15. old age? sorry really can't help
  16. Sometimes they don't build nests until they are in the process of spawning - don't panic, as long as you either have some floating weed or somewhere for bubbles to attach to things should be okay. As long as he isn't knocking her about or the other way around don't panic. Give them some privacy also
  17. another question - what type of heater looks like that (not being rude, being serious)
  18. Sorry, another question - I don't often get to look at tanks with all the plumbing/pipes set up. Whats the pipe in the middle for? By the way - a very nice tank, not dissimilar to mine in size, just a wee bit bigger.
  19. Whats on the end of you inlet pipe - do you know what its called? I take it that it disperses the water more evenly.
  20. I agree absolutely :bounce: I banned my sons motorbikes from the shed to make room for my tanks. He moved them to the garage Now my car sits outside Am I worried : I don't think so
  21. chuck some floating plants into the top of the tank to give some hiding places rather than splitting unless you have too. usually the one with the torn fins is the one causing the trouble rather than the one being picked on
