  1. When I went to Hamner Springs, many moons ago, I remember there is(or was) a picnic area with a stream that was real easy to get at.Just up the road from hotpools. From my experiance at searching for koura earlier this year, it is a likely spot. Sorry I cant be more descriptive but I do think that if you go buy yourself a butterfly net and a decent pair of gumboots(or if feeling like a tuff guy, just go barefoot in the freezing waters) and place net downstream of rocks and lift the rocks. Persistance pays. It took me about an hour of searching till i found mine, then once I sussed it out they were found everywhere. You want a stream where the flow is not breaking the surface otherwise its impossible to see anything. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/native ... 30902.html Thats a link to my koura hunt thread. HTH
  2. Don't we have some awesome underrated fish in this little country of ours!
  3. If you read it properly, its says ALONG the body. that would be the kribs. Tiger barbs have vertical stripes. So do the angels

  5. Ive only mowed the Lawns about 5 times this year. Was to dry in summer and now its so wet that it looks like a giant fish pond out there. Was a nice day this morning so I hung out a few loads of washing and went to town.Just as I pulled into the driveway, It bucketed down then hailed. Great dry washing is now soaked again.
  6. Id go with alans suggestions. I think #3 is Hydrocotyle of some sort, Maybe?
  7. Oh , and i know the strange look you get when purchasing pantihose    I find its the young checkout girls that look at you sideways. And for the record, I buy them to put peat in. Nothing else.
  8. Awesome looking pieces of wood there vinson. I would have to say the west coast of the south island is probably the best place to find wood for tanks. All the native hardwoods that wash down the rivers. Up here its mainly pine and pungas that you find.
  9. Sorry, ryan If i was closer id be there too. Hope all is ok with your fish.
  10. My favourite tetra is lemon tetras. Get a school of at least 6 and they look awesome once they settle in and colour up. Also , they are cheap
  11. Sorry cant help with a reason why he may have died, but testing water parameters would be a good start. Geos like to be in groups(i find that four or more is a happy group) One on its own would likely just sulk in a corner. Did you find with two that one was chasing the other alot? they tend to be a little aggressive to there own kind at times and if you only have two, there is no one else for the dominant fish to spread his/her aggression.Possible died of stress maybe?
  12. Its not snowing here in Wanganui, but it blimin feels like it might. So damn cold. brrrrrrrrrrrrr
