  3. Depends on howheavy, how large the parcel is. Are you sending a minnow, or an Arowana?
  4. I would recommend Otocinclus. Very non aggresive, they stay reasonably small and do not damage plants
  5. imsweet, My sword started looking like that. THEN it turned into this lol May not be the same type, but the leaves are the same shape as mine while it was submersed. Alan may be able to id it for you, im not that great in IDing sword species
  6. If its for your koura tank Romeo, I dont think flow will be to much of a problem. Most of the streams that koura reside in flow much stronger than the filter can create in a small tank. JMO
  7. Cheers guys. Will keep updating this thread as I progress. Now for the weather to warm up abit more. The night temps are to cold still to do much without heaters.
  8. Dont you guys remember ALF
  9. Hey Imsweet It will take about a week to start to produce plantlets after flowering. If the plant has plenty of nutrients it will shoot these upe every month or so, well thats from my expriences.
  10. Ha Stella Now ive got more reason to come and visit
  11. Many thanks to the people who have helped out so far, in supplying me with crypt plants and broken tanks. You know who you are people Some of the Submersed plants awaiting being potted Well today I started phase one Planting the already emersed plants This will be their tempory home until I can get all the equipment requred to setup my growing setup. A cephalotus and a sarracenia Carniverous plants on the right ......
  12. Cheers Pete Yeah Im into alsorts of things, much to the girlfriends disgust. I plan to take another trip up ruapehu this summer to look at the Drosera plants again. Nothing better than studying something in its natural environment.
  13. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/ruapeh ... tml#216435 Heres a link to the thread
  14. the reason it illegal to take sand without a permit is to stop people loading up trailer loads that can be damaging to the natural landscape. Alterations to natural sand hills can cause erosion and sand shifting. Mind you most councils would not go very far in prosecuting for removal of amounds required for the average fishtank, but if theres one rule for one and not the other, where should they draw the line? So it all "illegal"
  15. I got a hybrid nepenthes, as well as a sarracenia and a cephalotus. I posted a thread a year or so ago about a field trip to find NZ Native carnivarous plants. They are awsome plants to keep, and always start a conversation.
  16. I unfortunatley have never had the plesure of giving blood as a donor. Have given lots of blood to the testing labs over the years as I am a Type 1 Diabetic. Have to have blood tests every three months at the moment. Its a shame really as its something I can never do to help someone else.
  17. that bulb would be ok for growing some java moss or anubias etc due to the low wattage , you would be limited in growing any plants that require strong light. As a general rule of thumb, plants with dark green large leaves(such as anubias or java fern) are low light plants. Plants with small leaves and light green or reddish, require stronger light. Get some Java ferns and some wood to tie it to, and hopefully you will have a small forest in no time
  18. Its easier to plant plants when setting up the tank. They do not effect the speed of cycling at all. Your tank will cycle faster if you add a small single fish, such as a guppy, that will feed the devolping bacteria with amonia.
  19. Plants that dont require lots of light include, Java fern, java moss, anubias sp, some crypts. In regards as to whether your light is enough for plants, It would help if you could give tank dimensions, as water depth reduces light intensity. Also stating the type an wattage of the light would help in answering your question for you. HTH
  20. Potassium Permanganate Or diluted bleach solution
  21. What about my neighbours Neopolitan Mastiff???

Ok so I managed to save some eggs before the snails found them. Now a few have hatched today. :bounce: When do i start to feed them, and are microworms small enough for them?

  24. I have a 150 litre tank that mine breed in. I feed them disolved yeast once a week(just enough to make the water cloudy but still see the back of tank) and throw in a small clump of grass clippings . do a water change once every two weeks Seem to breed alright for me, although with the recent cold they have slowed down a bit. I started my culture from some daphnia in a farm water trough.
