  1. is that the tank you are referring to made by Greg? 12mm gives a safety factor of 2.2 which isn't bad at all.

    Smidey's pembas

    yes, they supply many fry
  3. yep, that's them & they are great with malawis. i had them a while back & i didn't actually realise they weren't from the lake.
  4. i can easily tell the difference between a peacock female & a fryeri female. the fryeri has a much shallower slope up the forehead.
  5. what about some different behaving africans like lump heads? they spend alot of time on the bottom or sitting on rocks rather than cruising the mid height of the tank.
  6. seriously bizarre, ah well sorry about it being that way. that was the impression i got from Caryl making points about how the women had to fight the men to be able to help & do what they did in the war as i amagine it would have been very tough for anyone that participated no matter what they did. i was interested to find the answer to that thought as i didn't think that was the case.
  7. not the best situation i agree, at least they proved the men wrong eventually & did what they could. are you angry at this generation of men about what happened back then Caryl?
  8. i have kept peacocks & mbuna in a much smaller tank without issues, in fact the peacock was the more aggro one. you have a big tank which is a great size, i would say you will be fine with the current stocking numbers although there may be some issues when the giraffes get big but they may not be as well. I have kept a similar number of africans in a much smaller tank so as long as your filtration is adequate then i think it should be fine. just watch it as time goes on & see how it pans out.

    Tank Bracing

it has bracing along the long edges on the base to front panel connection & braces on the ends on top. nothing in the middle on top.

    Tank Bracing

maybe i should have said "safe under normal or intended use" rather than "safe as a chopping board".

    Tank Bracing

i am confident that 10mm glass will be fine "un-braced" at that length & height, my 300L 4 footer (1200x500x500)has 10mm panels & no centre bracing & it has no bowing at all. There must be some definitive answers somewhere of what is safe & what isn't, people opinions vary a lot on this subject & i don't think any of us know for sure what the facts are technically.
  12. or it got in the wrong end of the thong?
  13. yes but if they ban cats humans would follow next on the list
  14. i have a few of the Hailea ones & the seem to be good. I have had no problems although i haven't had them very long.
  15. i agree but not to put any legislation in on such things as keeping them, breeding & transporting etc would be a very silly thing to do. not to ban them would allow anyone to legally spread them further & if they were to become a popular pet their numbers would increase along with the chance of them being released. the legislation will also allow DOC etc to move on that species if they see the need to, DOC are only looking out for our country even if that doesn't please everyone with how they do it. i am sure we all regret it if our natives were lost forever.
  16. if we want our native fauna to remain what it is the cute furry ones must be kept to a minimum. that is just how it is & it is the same with what ever these rainbow things are. they must be doing harm to natives in some way, DOC simply don't give classifications like that just for a reason to kill them or stop people having them as pets.
  17. really? when i was in the joinery trade premium grade MDF was under $30 per 2400x1200x16 sheet & 12mm ply was around what you paid.
  18. i bet it is baby batter. i used to get that, then i watched my empress spawning & it appeared during that so figured it was the milt sticking to the fine algae on the glass. the thicker the algae the thicker the "whiteness", does that make sense?
  19. nice photo mark?? isn't the line "that's a nice shirt Mark? Do they come in mens?"
