  1. my step sisters mum is missing, i hope that turns out ok.
  2. i would go with the experience of those who have easily raised many over the couple that have struggled
  3. congrats, may they all survive. the info i have seen from keepers in other countries say that they aren't hard to raise at all, i haven't seen any info about daily changes etc. I would research some australian forums for the info i needed if i was you.
  4. i ahave thought the same thing, there must be more around this year. it has been deafening outside lately due to the cicadas & they start at dawn & don't shut up until after dark.
  5. in my 2.0m aftrican tank i use the 5000lph to circulate the water & it has enough force to do it, if it is aimed at the bottom it does move the substrate around so i have it near the top on the end aiming down at about a thirty degree angle which pushes the water toward the other end. i just use a large airstone & canister spray bars pointing up to oxygenate the water.
  6. there are many factors that determine the price of a rare fish. as rare as these are, half of it is determined by the attitude of the person that breeds them. if they are keen to get them out there & make them accessible to everyone then they will sell them at a cheaper rate, if they want to make $ then they will be offered at a higher rate. If more than one person breeds them then there is competition on price providing they don't price fix, then it comes down to how many people are prepared to set up to keep the zebras. If there were 100 available at $500 each i suspect that they would sell quite slowly as they may not be suitable for some tank setups or current inhabitants, if they were $100 each people would be more likely to set up a tank specifically for them. I would be very interested to see how many people would actually get them if they were $100 or less as from what i understand of their behavior they aren't seen much so the idea of having a tank to enjoy their brilliant colouring may not be what it seems to someone that has not kept them before.
  7. :happy1: "watches video for the 50th time" there is something about the boom that i really like, it is so animated & extreme it's like it isn't real.

  10. they need more than just the big cats to justify the prices asked, a vote from me.

    room on a slope

they will work to, ask for some clashing strips for packing. we used to supply them with kitchens for under bench oven packing, they will do the same job as DPC & are a fraction thinner.
  12. it should be as big as you can get

    room on a slope

yeah. that much would need something like a timber block & use the dpc to get it perfect. I would get some ply or mdf offcuts from a kitchen or cabinet maker, a couple of layers or 16mm MDF & maybe you can sand one down to get it to the correct thickness. they should also have 12mm offcuts to so a 12 & 16 might be just right or add a layer of dpc to adjust.

DPC = Damp Proof Course. It's bituminous paper that builders put between timber & concrete. Available from building merchants & a roll for around $10 will be more than you need.

pack the legs of the stands up with DPC until level. I have the same issue with my 2m tank, i levelled it by packing the low end up first which lifted the middle legs off the floor then added the DPC under all the legs in between with what they needed. The DPC is around 1mm thick so just add as may layers as you like to make the required thickness. If it is more than say 5mm, i would use a thick block of wood or thick plastic sheets or anything lying around that won't compress under you tanks weight.
  16. nice, it's amazing how they behave when they have that sort of space.
  17. if you want your lids to be a good fit don't run a bead of silicone in the corner of the intersection, just smear silicone in a thin layer all over the face of the lid support where it will be touching the panel above.
  18. my old man refers to bikes as "sitting down walking machines", all his things with two wheels have motors.

    devastation

oh dear, that is very bad news indeed & i am sorry to hear that. when i first got mine i would hold my breath each day heading into the room to feed & see if they were ok, i am over it now & they are just fish like the rest of them except smaller & harder to breed. any idea what happened, ammonia spike or something? edit: mine aren't calvus, i really need to read posts more carefully
