  1. i think your thermometer is broke. the air is warming the tanks not the walls, i have 4 tanks in my tin garage. One is a 4 footer with poly all round the other is my 2.0m tank & they ate the same temp all the time. I would have thought by mid afternoon the cooler tank, especially as it is smaller would be matching the temp of the larger one. what ever the reason, if it's not the thermometer, it is very interesting.
  2. how is it possible to have two tanks in the same room that are heated by the ambient temperature to be different? has one got insulation & the other doesn't?
  3. change to africans, a water change once a week which includes a front panel scrub & food each & that's it. I must spend a total of around 30 mins per week i guess on 3 or 4 tanks. the fish eat the algae of the back panel so don't clean it & they are constantly moving the white marble chip substrate so it always looks pristine.
  4. nice work, it won't take long for them to get some size on them. i struggle to see mine in a 4 footer, let alone a 6 so that would be an intent search to find them. there seem to be more & more troph fry available as time goes on, there are a couple of sellers on TM (also from here i think) that have been regularly listing fry which is great for the hobby. you won't regret getting trophs & tangs in general i think, they are so active all the time there is never nothing to draw your attention.
  5. i do have around 50 of them
  6. not quite right there fruju, a perfect world would have the aro over the ray (in a tank of course) 8) anyone wanna swap lots of tropheus for a red aro? !drool:
  7. there maybe redundancies in the mod dept if this keeps up. the population seem to be more self regulating .
  8. that's cool, or maybe the snake realises he needs to manage the resource. If he doesn't help any & they all die then he shall be hungry in no time.
  9. i'll retract this now i realise where you got yours, thought you got them off TM for a minute cause i didn't read properly.
  10. this is the important bit, trophs as adults should be in a 4 foot minimum & only if you must until a bigger tank is sorted. as long a tank as you can get is best, 5 foot minimum for adults. dubs can be kept with one other species of trophs & they won't mix, if you mix any other two species they will cross breed. i am most of the way to having a tang community, in my 2.0m tank i have pembas & duboisi, altos & plan to add some leluipi, brichardi or daffodils & will also see how the ocellatus will go in there once they are fully grown.
  11. they are very cool, i have had mine around 3 years now. personality plus! i tap on the glass when i feed them, now i literally call them to the front by tapping.
  12. ah, if i think back i may have used a piece of sand paper to skim off the edges a fraction so they slide in better. give that a go, i am sure it will be smooth after that.
  13. also with the baskets try rotating them, they may fit better another way. bio film??
  14. you cant do it the building will collapse! it will be fine 8) i would say the challenge will be getting it into the apartment.
  15. from the info i can get through trademe, the purchaser's name is Yang & lives in auckland. plays the piano & has a dog
  16. i wouldn't think so as it 9mm glass, that is very thick for that size. my 2.0m tank is made of 8mm glass.
  17. if your are referring to the appearance of her giving a middle finger salute then no, definately not. my kiddies have respect & manners & that is more of a caught at that second kind of moment.
  18. is it supposed to have the sunken head & body look?

    Sunsun heaters

the reason i only use jagers is that the heaters that don't cost much could cost me a huge amount of money & time in the long run. if one that was in my main tank fails i would loose 25 adult tropheus, 8 juvies & 3 altos. the financial cost of the tropheus would be around $600 to get tropheus fry which would take a couple of years to grow to what i have now & i doubt i would find any altos for sale at all & i would hate to think what their price would be if there were some available. if adult colonies were for sale their price would e much more than $20 each. the jagers could fail but are far less likely to & will certainly last longer than jebos, aquaone or masterpet so the initial cost makes me sleep a lot easier at night.
  20. it is easy after lights out, i also use a torch. for a tank that size i would make a divider, fortunately i have a piece of perspex that i will use when i have a tank of that size.

    Sunsun heaters

it may be the record for masterpet, none of my 6 jebos last half that.
  22. no, i don't have them. those were in the mouth of an adult giraffe in aussie iirc
