  1. that's a difference of 17mm, the lower side will get more pressure applied to it than the other. how much extra pressure i don't know but for my piece of mind i would want it less than that. my 2.0m tank is out of level by 3mm at one end & perfectly level front to back which i think is fine.
  2. there is, there are two strengths of the same cans available. One is 100% & the other is less, can't remember the strength of the lesser.
  3. i'm having a great time, it's been raining heavily here so that's great for the drought & water tanks. In that rain today i went fishing & had snapper for lunch & i just got back from a very wet round of golf with a 74 off the stick. may it rain alot more with results like that!
  4. not at all, you could get away with the tropheus & e yellows together but they would need to be fed to suit the tropheus as they are very susceptible to bloating. the ikola & bulu points will also cross breed which is very bad. the others will need different water parameters to the africans i assume but cannot comment exactly as i have not kept them. the aro will eat most of these fish when it gets bigger. what are the dims of the tank exactly for height & depth?
  5. jbl novorift or NLS cichlid formula are the best foods to feed IMO, the flake foods available aren't tailored for africans as far as i am aware unless it's the jbl novomalawi.
  6. the empress is a herbivore & from your description is a female, they generally colour up around 5cm. In saying that, all africans will eat what is available in the tank. whether it is good for them in the long run is another story that often only time will tell.
  7. some malawis are omnivorous like red zebras, e yellows & greshakei. it won't be hard to get a group of them plus add carnivores like fryeri, giraffes or peacocks if you want to feed a meaty diet. just check their profiles on the cichlid forum for any others you m ay want to add. feed a variety to keep them healthy as a meat only diet may make them bloat. Ultimately it will be the size of the tank that dictates the fish kept in it i think. http://cichlid-forum.com/profiles/index.php
  8. not the same region. what do they eat? how do they behave?
  9. i doubt they would be a good combo, what parameters does the birchir require?
  10. the dimensions, depth & height are very important for keeping monsters. if it is less that 6x3x3 then i would rule out arowanas. a 6 footer would make a very nice lake tanganyikan tank, tropheus duboisi & another like pemba or moliro and keep some shellies, leleupi, brichardi & alto comps possibly. i have found they are a little easier on any plants than lake malawi species & java fern, valisaneria & ludwigia are doing well in my tank.
  11. perhaps they couldn't keep them alive which is why you only got one back.... anyway, i am pleased you have one of two.
  12. i would only be concerned about it being level or close to it & the base panel of the tank having good even support. if you achieve these then it won't fail, well out of level & not support around the edges (5mm overhang is fine) & you run the risk of it putting extra pressure in places & it cracking.
  13. i guess this is why i have seen many fish ponds with netting over them. not pretty to look at & totally defeats the effort of the look of it but does the job.
  14. i like messing with them. asking how their day has been, would they like to immigrate here & be my cleaner, other things i cannot post on here & they usually get the message after giving up trying to get info from me or getting me to do what they want.
  15. Ir.... a.... not sure
  16. i hate it to, can't be bothered but the latest generation of teenagers are afraid of outside or not being within two meters of their computer so this is the best way to get them to advertise to them. My son who has just turned 10 is obsessed with the computer so we have to limit his time heavily so he has to play outside. he is a good fisherman, hunter, has a large number of pets, bmx's & plays golf but the pull of the screen is too great for him to ignore. on-line is the way it is all going & is a sensible marketing/advertising media, look at the price trademe sold for.
  17. i played in a hockey tournament in Los Angeles & ones of the teams competing had a massive iguana ( i think) as a team mascot, it would have been 6 foot long including the tail i guess & it was being walked around on a leash like a dog. Kinda weird to see.
  18. for a four footer that tank has huge litres so loosing that much won't be an issue. i think it will work very well, great idea & design.
  19. Here's some girls names :happy2:
  20. speaking of herbs, a stoner mate of mine named his daughter Sativa. she is 11 now.
