  1. what they eat is precisely what we are discussing but thanks for that info all the same, i now know more about them. a "tank cleaner" is also a name i use as a general term for catfish. 8) i am well aware of why they are expensive, that doesn't mean they are not overpriced or the people in the chain of supply aren't taking advantage of the situation. I also totally agree about the tropheus being over priced & I am doing what i can to change that.
  2. sorry to hear that, i hope he is recovered soon.

    hello from newbie

Just start a thread with what you are proposing etc & it will help you a lot. you can post for sale threads in the trade & exchange area here.

    hello from newbie

welcome, you have great taste in fish & you won't regret setting up an african tank as long as it's done well.
  5. i posted guess as rabbit has not stated to me or publicly that i am aware of that he has so i can only assume, i wouldn't want to state that he did when he did not.
  6. is there that much fear with these fish that it is a national secret to keep them? don't get me wrong, they are stunning fish but just an over priced tank cleaner that you rarely see from what i understand about their behaviour. so from this thread i guess that rabbit bred the current batch. brilliant, good on you for doing so & i hope you can supply a whole lot more so they are a reasonable price & accessable to all. that can only be a good thing for the hobby. Once you have done that can you please do the same with some rainbow trophs?
  7. not all africans are kept in high ph's, in a perfect world they would be. mine are in around 7.4ph, would that be ok for a gold nugget?
  8. i am unsure, that would depend on what water parameters you have the trophs in & what they require. I have been told that other plecs like the gold nugget would be fine with trophs.
  9. me: "are these left over from the last lot?" store person: nod in agreement. that's the info i have, not that it matters to me. perhaps you bred them rabbit?
  10. i saw them at the end of last year in the albany store, they are the same batch as the ones available last year. there were 5 or 6 & were all trying to hide behind the only small rock in the tank.
  11. is this new auction the same fish or another one?
  12. perhaps you could read your statement, think about it rationally then edit it to save yourself some embarrassment.
  13. they both have mouths, eyes & fins. that's where the similarities end IMO
  14. as i understand it, the jager, if it fails & sticks on it burns out the fuse wire & stops completely so that tells me the failure of a jager will result in a cold tank rather than a hot one which is a far better option. It takes longer to cool than heat & the fish can tolerate it alot longer.
  15. ? really, i would have thought that $32 would be normal retail. if that is $64 retail, the jagers are not that much more than that.
  16. with this setup, is there any risk of something like rats burrowing in for food & having a fight with a beardie or the beardie being able to escape from a hole like that?
  17. my aunty used to own a camera shop & then managed camera house up here, she reckons they are brilliant. the only thing she said to be wary off as that they have specific canon batteries so if your buying a second hand one you may need to buy a new battery which aren't cheap.
  18. sesh, can't any govt department make up their mind? once you catch it or in this case the cat brings it in you can't keep or release it, what do you do?? :nilly:

    thanks, not bad lookers a?
  20. when i moved i moved the fish with the tank in a large chilly bin, just make sure you add an airstone when you get there & they will be fine. i also moved my tanks with the substrate in them but drained the water i could so it weighed less. the substrate won't dry out in that time so the plants will be fine.
  21. i have turned my heater down to 23 in my large tank just in case it does get cold overnight, it was at 25 this morning at 7:30.

  24. what sort of lph is the pump? guess it would be somewhere from 5000 to 7000 or more? i guess they could generate some heat, may be using more juice than the heater.
