  1. that is a good sized tank which will give you plenty of flexibility of numbers for stocking. what conditions including food, temp & ph do the kribs, rainbow boesemani & pleco require? are they similar to the africans & if they aren't the same are any of these your favourite which would stay if any of the others had to go? what can happen is fish will survive in conditions not ideal for them but depending on how far the setup is from what they need will determine how well or how long they survive. if the conditions are quite far from what for what they require they may die over a long period of time or have a lot of health issues. africans can be quite susceptible to bloating if they aren't feed the right foods so it is very important the setup is correct.
  2. i had a female pick up some free swimming fry thinking they were hers when she had eggs, they were red zebra fry & the female was a peacock. it may be the same batch or there could be a weird explanation for its greater size.
  3. that's interesting, any chance he could have been from an earlier batch & you didn't notice him? i have found growth rate differences between fry & species alike but nothing that major. the red zebs i had grew twice as fast as the peacocks i kept & all species i have bred have had fast growers & runts but that can also be down to the attitude of each fry, keen & aggressive feeders always grow faster.
  4. nice work! what mooriis are they?
  5. then i would say the weak link is the thermometer, i would be surprised if the temp is fine.
  6. there is a bracket that slides onto the top of the power head & the top of the bracket slides into the underside of the filter boxes. there is a pipe with a basket filter that is pushed into the inlet of the power head & a short pipe that pushes into the top of the power head. on the short pipe goes the rubber 90 deg elbow which the spray bar fits into.
  7. i always seem to get sum what excited when i see your thread titles then the post doesn't seem to back up the hype  nice progress all the same
  8. what are the facts? what brand of heater? What is the room temp at night? is it in a garage or particularly cold room? do you have a second thermometer to check the temp?

    yo

i was cracking up about that to, nice to see the correct pic has been added now 8)
  10. does that unit have starters or ballasts? i pulled my sunsun apart to have a look a while back & both the tubes are run off the same electronic ballast so if one is working the ballast is not the issue, i would look for the fault in the connections.
  11. probably now that i have read your post
  12. there are screens that are pieces of scrub, maybe tee tree or similar that comes in a roll. I don't know what they are called but they should be at all gardening places.
  13. i have no idea who is right or wrong when it comes to predictions but i am no longer impressed with John Campbell, he made a right wally of himself there.
  14. definatly don't tell everyone about sticking that big hook through the live baits back & letting it swim off to become an easy target for a much larger fish. i doubt that will be too popular with a few.
  15. i just think the whole world needs to harden up, big fish eating smaller fish is a good example of how life is whether we like it or not. Cattle need to be killed & butchered to become food for which they were bred for in the first place, if you odn't like it choose not to eat it. I am in no way keen on any animal suffering at all but we are all part of teh food chain at some point.
  16. next there will be a number of aros put down as the punishment for murder....

    800L Tang Tank

possibly, i would start with 30 to 35 & see how that is. i think you may find 50 is achievable but it will be better to start off with a smaller number & work up particularly if you start with juvies. that tank will easily handle 60 juvies but as adults they may be too large, doing this will mean you can weed out numbers to get good male & female ratios. also keep in mind they won't be easy to catch in a tank of that size, i recommend a divider/s of some sort to reduce the area to catch them in. what are you having as filtration, plenty of that will be needed for these numbers.

    800L Tang Tank

what are the dims of the tank? in 400L i have 30 ish trophs, pembas & duboisi. this could be increased due to the shape of my tank, it's nearly 7 foot so there is plenty of floor space for them to create territories. I have altos & my shellies are almost fully grown i think so i could try them in there soon.
  19. a while back one of my peacock females would spit her eggs if i tried to net her, it was every time she was holding & no matter at what stage she would simply freak out & spit them. I have not had any other females of any kind do this so i hope for your sake she isn't the same.
  20. why tumble? i find it so much easier just to wait & strip when they are free swimming
