  1. Didn't you have a similar problem with a platy? (Edit: just checked - you weren't sure what that fish was either) He could just be resting or he might be not feeling well. Really is hard to say without being given any other symptoms or water conditions etc...
  2. Who's your ISP? If its Vodafone, I was browsing their site today and came across a message on the forum that says they are having issues with broadband speed and decreased online gaming performance. The message was first posted on 6 August, but it doesn't look like its been resolved as yet. http://forum.vodafone.co.nz/topic/5694- ... ng-issues/ So if you are with Vodafone, this could be it?
  3. Thats awesome, good work Si Did all the fish survive?
  4. Yeah I'll weigh in for the Aqua one canisters. I was a complete n00b when it came to canister filters when I purchased my CF1200, but I found it really easy to install, easy to clean, and I've only cleaned it out twice since its been running.. which is over six months. I can't compare it to Eheim or anything else because I've never had anything else.. Speaking of canister filters, whats the smallest size you can get?
  5. I agree with Ryan about holding off on the Aviverm. Investigate any possible water issues first. Once you have cycled the tank you can observe the fish again and if you still have problems then you can look at worming.
  6. My guess is the tank hasn't cycled. I see you are using stress zyme, which is bacteria in a bottle. My LFS also recommended that I use this but when I came here and asked pretty much the same questions as you I was told that it wasn't required. I personally think you've added too many fish at once. Don't feel bad, I did the exact same thing but in a smaller tank when I started the hobby. Because the tank hasn't cycled, the ammonia (from fish waste and possibly rotting food) has built up and ammonia is toxic to fish. I would recommend not getting any more fish to replace the ones that have died at this stage, and stop using the stress zyme. Cycling the tank as discussed in your other thread, is the process of building up the bacteria naturally. You need to be doing daily water changes, say 30-40% each time. And I would highly recommend getting an ammonia test kit at the least. You can get API ones the same as your pH test kit. 5 mls of tank water with 8 drops of 2 different solutions and wait 5 mins to see if the water changes colour. Also, plenty of people say that Neons are hardy, but I've found this to be not the case. I had a school of neon tetras die within weeks of purchase, I've had a school of glowlight tetras for years. Silvertip tetras and Black Neon tetras in my experience are far more hardy. So maybe when the time comes to purchase more fish you might want to stay away from the neons.
  7. Clamped fins means the fins are not extended, instead they are held close to the body. It's a sure sign that all is not well with a fish. From your description it soulds like his/her fins are clamped.
  8. Wow. Sorry to hear that Barrie. Thats a lot of bad stuff to happen to one family. Here's hoping there's a silver lining hiding in there somewhere.
  9. 25% weekly sounds alright depending on how heavily stocked it is, of course. How big is it and what is it stocked with?
  10. I don't know much about gourami's but google says they tolerate pH range from 6.0-8.8 so wouldn't have thought your 8.0 would have been too much of a problem. How often do you do water changes?
  11. He's most likely doing what is known as flashing, which is an indication something is irritating him. I'd start by testing for pH, ammonia, nitrate, then do a good water change.
  12. That just brings up the Harlequin Rasbora.. is the purple/gold one just a colour variation with the same latin name?
  13. Just been to my LFS and noticed a new fish I've not seen or heard of before. They had it labelled as a Goldheaded Purple Harlequin. The name is basically a description of the fish, its body is mostly a dark purple colour with a gold patch on the head. It was similar in shape and size to a Harlequin Rasbora. I've googled and I can't find anything about these fish. I'm a bit doubtful as to whether they are commonly known as Goldheaded Purple Harlequins as this comes from a shop who regularly labels things strangely, such as Sucker Cats rather than Bristlenose. If anyone knows the fish I'm talking about and can give me perhaps a latin name or even a common name that would be much appreciated
  14. Hope your not referring to a Clown Loach. Clown Loaches which are one of the most commonly known and sold loaches will get too small for your 90 litre tank as they grow to 20-25 cm. A better snail eating loach for your size tank would be Zebra Loaches, which only grow to about 10-12 cm. Its generally recommended they be kept in groups of at least five but I had just two for several years and they did just fine. I think Zebra Loaches are more suited to a community tank. I currently have both Yoyo's and Zebras in a community tank with tetras and a bristlenose and find that the Yoyo's are a bit nippier than the Zebras. I've had siamese fighter fish in with loaches and I suspect that the loaches may have nipped at the fighters fins. Can you not just wait until the tank is all set up to get the fish? 25 litres isn't a lot..
  15. Well lucky we're not coming up this weekend! Better be nice by the time we get there.
  16. I'm level 320 in Mafia Wars, but a bit over it TBH. I hate the slow process of accepting each gift individually. For a while there about a month ago they had it where you could do it easily like just click down the list of your gifts to accept, but they've taken it away I see. Why? It worked so well! I'm actually quite liking Millionaire City right now. You build houses, sign tenants and collect rent, and can place decorations around the houses to increase the rent and build businesses for the tenants of your houses to spend their money, then collect that money too!
  17. Wow Barrie, generous offer indeed. Is it quite a scenic drive to Coromandel? I just googled it and the majority looks coastal. We have accommodation booked in Auckland for the whole time anyway, which is only 5 nights so don't envisage us staying anywhere else, thanks for your kind offer anyway. And yes we have the Sky Tower on our list of things to do.
  18. I'm the fishgeek and will be wanting to visit all the LFS but I think theres only so much fishy stuff that hubby can take. Gotta let him do his thing I suppose. Hubby will be up for the War Museum probably. He's into photography and space stuff though.
  19. Hubby and I will be visiting Auckland soon. We're quite excited! Any recommendations on what to see and do while there? We've got a little rental car booked so we can travel and we're already planning on going to Tauranga to visit Livingart Wildlife Park as well as the Zoo, Kelly Tarltons and some transport museum thingy near the Auckland Zoo? (Hubbys vague description). What else is good?
  20. Apologies, looks like I read it wrong.
  21. As much as I hate to, being the cat lover that I am, I agree that he needs to be caught and dealt with. Its highly unlikely that he'll be able to be rehomed so the only option is euthanisng him. Humanely. As per Danilada's post, I believe that she does not want to inflict harm. So I'm assuming that your wonderful suggestion of "giving it a long painful death" would be out of the question.
