  1. My husband has just bought home what we think (identified from a bird book) is a Little Owl. Hubby thinks he has a broken leg. We have him sitting in a large box with a snuggly blanket and read that they normally eat bugs like spiders worms etc. But not sure what else to do with him?
  2. Turning pale can be an indication of stress. Is he getting harrased by any other tankmates perhaps? How does he look otherwise? Have you seen him eat? Also, have you checked your water conditions? I've noticed that my zebras and yoyos harass each other from time to time and as a result they turn pale and hide, but not for extended periods. 4 days of hiding sounds a bit more serious to me.
  3. Any keen gardeners out there? I've had a couple of raised vegetable plots for the last couple of years. We'll be coming in to the second winter with the vege garden. Last winter it grew an incredible amount of weeds and grass over the winter months. Anyone got some suggestions as to how to discourage this? Was a nightmare in spring to weed it all - needed to take the weed whacker to it then dig it up completely. Not fun. The garden is done producing crops now and I have taken all the dead plants out, weeded it and turned the soil over. I was thinking I could just nail black polythene over the plots? Some else in the office said pea straw would work too. Any other ideas or suggestions? cheers

    hi

    Cats. I have five.
  5. Only white icing? When we made gingerbread men as kids, they were all multicoloured.. and some had coconut pants. And lollies for buttons and eyes.. oh those were the days.
  6. Well I was wondering about meths because I do have some of that...
  7. I might see if I can get some clove oil on my way home tonight.. really not looking forward to the old smash the net on the ground again. Also, do you have to use vodka? I don't generally have vodka (or any spirits for that matter) around the house.
  8. This is the way I do it too. Took me a long time to be able to do it myself, I used to net them and get hubby to do the other bit. He'd take it away outside so I couldn't see or hear what he was doing. But I can do it myself now, still sad for me but you just have to get beyond the killing part and realise that you are doing the best thing for the fish by ending his/her misery. Speaking of which, if my skinny zebra loach doesn't cark it while I'm at work, I'll be euthanising him tonight when I get home.
  9. hahahaha what does he do on the 7th night? Is that a naturally hairless cat or did someone shave all his fur off??
  10. I've always wanted to try pumpkin pie. These green buttercup pumpkins are smaller than the grey crown variety?
  11. Yes I agree. SPCA would be the way to go. Good price definitely if it has been desexed and had its vaccinations. Its the responsible thing to do.. And SPCA cats are great. I got my Willow from the SPCA - such a character!
  12. Go for it. I have an AR850. Only thing I don't like is the noisy filter system. It seemed pretty quiet when new, but as it aged it seemed to get noisier. Recently purchased a CF1200 for it. Much better I have I think a 200 watt heater in it.
  13. I recently discovered acorn & chestnut trees in our local arboretum. Took 2 chestnuts home, googled to see what I could do with them, only to learn they were in fact horse chestnuts and apparently not edible. Apparently we could have a good game of Conkers with them though!
  14. Must try pumpkin pie one day. I love pumpkin. Mmmm. Cupcakes!
  15. I totally thought you were talking about raiding your local KFC skip bins before I clicked. And who knew blackberries grew out in the ocean!
  16. I take it that this is a hint towards actual events that occurred between the party that said they were shutting down their tanks and other parties?
  17. Did someone say cupcakes?!? I have a total obsession with cupcakes at the moment. Remind me when I get home to post a pic of the 32 cupcakes I made for hubby's 32nd birthday
  18. Looking good but chocolate + bread = wrong. I'm a raisin & currant hot cross bun girl myself. But NOT with peel.
  19. No, was just curious to find out how big they were. I have 4 yoyos, biggest is about 8cm. Aq Advisor says on rare occasions they can get up to 10 inches long.
  20. Just curious, how big are your Yoyos?
  21. Ah ok. Will remember that. Thanks
  22. Well I've just been to the LFS (yay I'm getting new Yoyos!!!) and they only have Flourish excel and Flourish Iron? And lots of empty spaces for the other varieties available I'm guessing. I'll go to the other one see what they got. I'll look out for that flourish comprehensive. Hope my loaches don't react badly. I also read that you have to be careful when using Flourish with loaches.
