  1. I have both. Pretty sure its cyano, its a blue/green colour and slimey looking. Its on some plants, and on the bottom of the tank. not sure how I'm going to increase the flow there. I've been reading up a bit on the cyano, both here and other forums and seen it mentioned several times that cyano is triggered by low nitrates. So if I add some nitrates (in the form of ferts I assume) this will help?
  2. Well I pulled most of the plants out (left the twisted val and dwarf chain sword in) andl I got new plants (an assortment of about 10 different plants) 45 cuttings in total, floated them in the tank until they started to grow roots and then stuck them into the gravel. They seem to be doing well, I can see that they've grown but I can now see algae starting to grow around the edges of the leaves of some of the plants. I scrubbed the driftwood and left it out in the sun for about a week to kill the black beard that was growing on it. I removed as much of the cyano as I could but it seems to be coming back. I don't really want to go down the mycin dosing path. What if I just started using Flourish Excel or something like that?
  3. Used to but it got bored with it. I hate how if I didn't log in everyday to feed fishies, they die.
  4. Awww I think she is cute!! Love the pic of puppy in the shoe. Congratulations on the new addition.
  5. Man, this thing sounds interesting, can't wait to get home so I can actually see the photo (work now blocks media sharing sites such as photobucket)
  6. Oh Caryl that is just.... awful. So sorry to hear that. So very sad indeed.
  7. Yep. Don't mess with crazy women.
  8. Can someone tell me why when I enter the dimensions of the Aquaone AR850 tank: 84W x 44D x 59H cm Capacity: 165 Litres the stocking tool tells me that the tank is 218 litres?
  9. Probably best to hold off on getting the clowns at the moment until you can establish whether there is a problem. I would always recommend getting a test kit that has at least tests for ammonia, nitrate and nitrite. Whenever something goes wrong in my tank my test kit is the first thing I turn to. If you can rule out water condition problems first then you can look into other problems that aren't so easy to diagnose. I have a test kit that has all of the above plus a high range pH test. Its made by API (think it might be the same master test kit you are talking about) and retails for around $60. If you can't get one locally why not try online?
  10. I've got myself a 25ml bottle.. it says on the box that the Active Constituents are actually Levamisole 8.48mg/mL (as the hydrochloride)and Praziquantel 2.0mg/mL. Not 10mg/mL levamisole as previously stated. Anyway, according to your advice I need 1ml per litre of water, so I need 150 mls of Avitrol??? Surely that can't be right. That means I need 6 bottles of this stuff @ $20.80 each?? I think it'll be cheaper to get new fish lol
  11. Awww I want a snuggle hut!! Do they come in human sizes?? Very cute
  12. Alrighty. I'll go with 50%. Thanks!
  13. I'm not worried about trying to benefit from the praziquantel as I've tried dosing with it before although it was in tablet form. I've since found an article online discussing the use of levamisole and it names Avitrol Plus as a product that can be used. So will give it a go! With the method you suggest do I add the levamisole then do the water change the next day, not straight after? And large would be 50%? Thanks so much for your help.
  14. I was able to find the composition for Avitrol. It is Levamisole hydrochloride 10 mg/mL, praziquantel 2 mg/mL. Can't find Aviverm composition. Does that help?
  15. No idea sorry.. wish I did! What was up with that one 20/20 match against Bangladesh being on Prime?
  16. Arghh.. I didn't take any notice of the concentrations.
  17. I'm going to try bird wormer on my loaches for this wasting disease thing they may have. Went to the LFS to buy the Aviverm, only to find they had none. But they had Avitrol syrup. Does anyone know if Avitrol is just the same as Aviverm? I noted that the Avitrol contains Levamisole Hydrochloride as well as Praziquantel.
  18. Or smaller loaches such as Zebra if you don't have room for Clowns?
  19. Oh yes I know. I won't throw in the towel. Maybe I'll just take the opportunity to improve my tank. I picked up a nice looking bit of driftwood at the beach yesterday...could replace the current bit with the new improved bit! Do a bit more planting. I've been wanting to add more gravel too, because I think I don't really have enough for the plants to grow in properly.
  20. Hmmm.. well I've already got lots of black beard algae too, which I don't even bother trying to fight. I had increased feeding a little because of the skinny loach thing. Which I also still need to sort out. I might just pull the plants out and replace them. Was planning on getting more anyway. I wonder if it was that bio ball that caused it? Because when I took it out it smelled BAD!
  21. Thanks Jennifer. It seems to be all over the plants, so do I have to remove the plants too? I've never had this type of bacteria before. Only thing that has changed in the tank was that I added that Bio ball you sent me! Thanks Caryl. Will try that.
  22. I think I've got cyano in my tank too. Its sort of blue-green and slimy looking. No noticeable smell though I normally do 1 water change per week. What should I increase this to? I was thinking of reducing light hours as per breakaway's advice too.
  23. Yes I do. But its several years old.. If you're after a new one try this: http://www.petmart.co.nz/cart_product20 ... tegory_ID= I've bought online from this place before with no problems. I received excellent service.
