  1. Oh ok. Pity, sounds like an interesting story.
  2. Really? What have you seen??
  3. I think they are supposed to have white filter wool, black sponge pad and white ceramic noodles.. and possibly some carbon. Just ask or have a look at one at your LFS, that is if they stock the Aqua One range. They should be able to supply you with everything an AR510 requires.
  4. Black ghost knife fish are coool.. however, they can grow up to 50 cm.. so you're gonna need a bigger tank. Try 280 litre minimum. They will also eat anything that will fit in their massive mouth.
  5. Yeah thats true about the loaches, my two Zebra Loaches are nuts. So much for them being bottom feeders, they turn themselves nearly upside down trying to eat the flakes floating at the top. Apparently red tail sharks don't show the same level of aggression when placed with larger fish.
  6. They are territorial fish. Mine has two places that he regards as "his". Watch out anyone who dares to stray into one of these two places. They'll be promptly chased out.
  7. I have a Rainbow Shark which is similar to the Red Tailed Shark apart from that the Rainbow Shark has all red fins, rather than just the red tail. Even though they grow to the approximate same size (15cm) I saw it was suggested a minimum of 10 gal (37ish litres) for the Red Tail and 55 gal (208ish litres for the Rainbow Shark. Not sure why that is. I don't have a 208 litre tank, its only about 150ish and he seems to be doing fine. Originally had him in a little 37 litre tank by himself. He does get grumpy from time to time if any of his tank mates get in his territory, he will chase them out briefly, but thats all.
  8. Red Tailed Sharks, can be quite agressive apparently moreso towards smaller fish such as tetras so are probably not suited to community aquariums. At least not smaller ones anyway. Not sure about the tank size? I read the minimum size is 10 gallons which is about 37 litres. What kind of tank is it? Like Aqua One or something??
  9. Wouldn't you just need to add some aquarium plant fert?? I assume that they would contain potassium..
  10. That is awesome news! I'm so glad that everything has worked out, and extremely happy that I am now able to put your park on a list of places I want to visit! Congratulations!
  11. I have 5 cats and have NEVER lost any fish due to cat. Perhaps you need some distraction from the fish? More toys, cool scratching post?
  12. No worries, I have a rainbow shark too, had him for about 3 years. His name is Bert.
  13. lol again in my experience, cats will go in potted plants no matter what they have in their litter tray, whether it be kitty litter or soil!
  14. In my experience given half the chance, cats will use litter trays over going outside. I've always thought this was perhaps because of laziness or not wanting to go outside because of the weather conditions, generally when its wet/raining/cold. Perhaps it is just a case of the litter box is where they have been taught to go. Kitty litter is expensive though! Especially when its the fancy stuff thats supposed to absorb smells. Maybe you could try the garden soil option? A lot cheaper than kitty litter.
  15. Kitty tranquillisers, stat! Do you think it was genuinely vicious? Or did he just get spooked by someting? Sometimes my cats jump on me and hurt me, accidentally.
  16. Why exactly do you need to buy them in such a hurry, only to have someone hold them for a long time?? Why not just go and buy them when you are ready for them?
  17. Red tail shark or a rainbow shark? They are different. Red Tail Shark has a red tail only, a Rainbow Shark looks similar but with red fins as well as a red tail.
  18. Oh no that sucks. How many fish were in the tank?? Do you know how it happened?
  19. Would you estimate Snowballs is older than Rufus? 2 is still a reasonably young cat. I find the younger the cat, the easier it is to introduce new cats. There are always exceptions to this however. As for being able to tell if he's fixed or not.. it should be reasonably obvious if he's still got his.. "snowballs" in tact or not. Don't give up just yet, sounds like you and your family like snowball, even though you say its been 6-7 weeks, it still could just take a while for them to get to know each other. I have 5 cats all introduced at different times, theres a gap of about 1-2 years between each. They all get on pretty well. They do scrap but its only play fighting. Funny, the same could be said for some humans...
  20. Its only been a couple of weeks right?? Sometimes it takes more time. How old are both cats?
  21. oh I had to lol at myself attempting this game. Using the hinges so that it swings, I just can't seem to get it right
  22. You got some good photos there. Congratulations on the engagement too. We enjoyed a lovely sunny end of winter Southland day yesterday, that is after a hard night on the drink hehe. It was a girly night in at a friends place out in the country so we could be as loud as we wanted. We played Buzz & Singstar, both of which I kicked arse at hehe. Drank some cocktails and lots of wine. (I'm getting far too old for that) Eventually rolled in to bed about.. 5:30 after the boys got back from town (they're getting far too old for that!!) After getting home from our friends place (miraculously and thankfully without a hangover!!) we reclined back in our Lazy Boys and just soaked up the afternoon sun streaming through our lounge windows, it was bliss. I love these days, they are just a reminder that summer IS coming!
  23. Girls stealing a pony?? For some reason that really surprises me. Guess I just have it in my head that boys are more likely to commit crimes than girls.. weird. What on earth did they think they were going to do with him?? Anyway I am glad that you got your pony back!
  24. For those of you that do have khuli loaches, do you have a fine gravel/sand substrate?

Aren't Otocinclus supposed to be quite good for eating BBA? Or is that just algae in general.. I'm not sure. I know I asked this question too a while back and pretty sure someone recommended oto's.. I'll have a look at some old posts to check.
