  1. I'm not 100% sure, but I think my betta may have cotton mouth. Got him from LFS yesterday. He's got what looks like whiteish fluff growing around his mouth and greyish areas near the gills on at least one side (not sure if thats part of it or just his colouration) I'm currently trying to get pics, but the lighting set up in the tank isn't ideal for taking pics (and I'm not good with setting the camera correctly) so I will post pics when I can. I can't get to LFS until tomorrow and have no drugs on hand, is there anything I can do until then? I read this spreads rapidly.
  2. Cats. Haven't we done this before though??
  3. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals do a high range pH test that tests from 7.4 to 8.8. Mine came in a kit along with a normal range pH test kit, nitrate, nitrite etc.. I think you can get them individually though.
  4. Thats so cute. I love how you're caring for the poor wee thing. I'd say most people wouldn't care about a bird. Good on you! And keep us posted on Peep's progress won't you.
  5. Ahh ok, just wondered... I will leave them there, they will be a tasty tankwarming snack for the future inhabitants.
  6. I have a tank that was previously fully cycled tank, which broke down prior to christmas, (powerhead stopped working) and I removed all fish to my other tank and left it just sitting there as I was too busy with christmas stuff/holidays/work etc to do anything about it. I finally got around to having a look at the powerhead, pulled it apart, put it back together and its now operational again. I assume the bacteria will have died off though, i've done probably a 60-80% water change and left it just running for about 3 weeks now. I was inspecting it the other day and found it heavily populated with snails. Will they aid the cycling process at all?
  7. Wow, amazing! I would never have thought of getting married in a hot air balloon. Congratulations!
  8. I haven't called them as that costs money (0900 number) but checked out their website, and there didn't seem to be any breeders near me. I've checked out our one and only pet shop here and they suggested gave me two contacts, one of which wasn't jack russell but fox terrier. I've checked the papers, and trademe, but i always seem to miss out on those ones
  9. I know this a fish site, but I'm not having much luck in locating what I want so trying everything I can think of. Anyone know of any Jack Russell puppies that are available in the South Island? I'm looking for a female. Doesn't have to be purebred. Cheers!
  10. My rainbow shark moves his eyes. think my corys did too they're both bottom dwellers.
  11. Ocassionally, I will put stuff in a box, to send. Thats pretty much all my job has to do with boxes...
  12. sorry my mistake, i don't generally think in imperial.. i saw 1.5 and automatically thought metres.. haha
  13. 1.5 metres... I'm glad we don't have those. I'll stick with my rainbow "shark" thanks.
  14. I got an electric guitar and amp 8) oh and various vouchers/chocolate/hampers etc
  15. WOW, that is generous! I'm in the middle of training up a new girl, and I'm also expected to keep up with my workload too.. its hard work, but I guess I don't have to tell you that! I get nothing for my troubles though..
  16. I'm gonna side with Mystic on this one. Even if it was say something normally eaten like a chicken or lamb, I still would not eat it. Out of respect for the animal.
  17. Wooo its Christmas Eve and I have a massive pressie waiting for me under the tree, it sure looks interesting! But sadly, I have to go to work shortly, which I am far from impressed about. Not only that we still gotta work til 5pm!!! Who else is off to work today?? Merry Christmas to you all!
  18. Its 21 December 2012: http://www.december212012.com/ Its apparently a very important date to a lot of religions and lots ofpeople have predicted that it will be the end of the world. can't help but think.. would it be such a bad thing??
  19. This thread makes me want a marine tank. But that would be an extremely bad idea for me. I have no clue about marine fish, except for Nemo is a clownfish  Are these things star fish?? They are so cool.
  20. Yeah I've had about 4 blue rams, all died within months of purchase.. sounds like a fairly common thing. Shame really cos they are beautiful fish.
  21. Thats a great pic Caryl. Nice looking loaches.
  22. Oh, see thats what I thought too I probably change more than 10-15% so I guess I should just keep doin what i;m doin..
  23. I'm not sure I follow, do you plan to buy all the fish at once? Best idea to avoid any ammonia problems is to do what people have previously suggested and just buy and add a few fish at a time, so as to not overload the biological filter.
  24. So, let me get this right?? You guys do it straight from tap, with a hose even, and don't even warm the water to the same temp as the tank??? Man have I been wasting my time! I always use a mix of cold/warm water, just to get the new water roughly around the same temperature as whats in the tank. Tell me I really don't have to to this.
