  1. Yes, kinda. A second hand turbo will set you back around $500 for a good one and maybe a couple of hundy to get get it installed. On those things it is a really straightforward job. If you put it into perspective that they will normally do 200,000kms before dropping their guts, the savings in fuel by far outweigh any prospective servicing costs. In saying that, don't buy a mitzy turbo diesel. They are particularly known for catastrophic mechanical failures. Nissan or Toyota are best.
  2. While I have not owned either of them, I have had to fix many in my previous life as a mechanic. The mitzis were chronic for transmission faults. My reccommendation would be a post '95 toyota surf with the 3L turbodiesel, and arguably a much more forgiving setup if 4wd'ing is being considered than a petrol engine. The mitzi v6 and the isuzu v6 are not in themselves hugely bad powerplants but I always smile when people buy them as it is a step towards ensuring my job security (work for an oil company!) and they will, as Caryl says, be hugely hungry around town and only slightly less so on the highway.
  3. I'm working christmas eve and christmas day at this stage... tanker full of fuel from singapore to go into our tanks.
  4. You can go in to your user control panel and change and customise the skins and colours to get something that you prefer. Much cooler than before.
  5. Nice one Jim R We all have the potential to be extreemly rich - but I think what Jim is referring to is wealth is not always measured in money, but in family and lifestyle. We have just bought our first home (earlier in the year, before the interest rate drop!) and are squeezing our 4 children into a 3 bedroom house and sleepout. I guess it's how you prioritise things, and how you choose to live pre-homeowner.

    hi all..

Hi and welcome to the forum
  7. True. And if you think wetting the bed might be bad, imagine my Teenage son in it. No pretty plastic cover there!
  8. lol, Three kids trapped in the ute for three hours... Small cabin and very noisy kids Was a bit strung out and tense when we arrived and I wandered around talking to myself, opening myself up to much mocking and ridicule. I didn't see the problem  Maybe next time we'll strap the kids to the tray and arrive sooooooooo happy!
  9. Fun adventure to collect! Teenage boy will be absolutely stoked! Thanks Shadowfax! (btw... Hope we didn't scare you!) (!)
  10. Things have settled down a bit because everybody is giving rugfus a wide bearth every time they see him. Snowballs is booked into get fixed have to ask Sharron when but I think it's early next week when I'm in auckland. It is very hard to like a cat that attacks so forcefully but we're still trying! Will keep everybody posted.
  11. Thats usually the case, unless the road is marked differently. As an example, two roundabouts on my way home allow right turning in the left lane.
  12. It felt vicious to me :-(..... We've had a think about it and occasionally when the two cats are in the same room rufus for some reason gets upset or tense, yet there are times when we will come home and find the two of them sleeping on the same bed or couch. It's just weird. Yep, 100% deaf. Only indication of any hearing at all was when I was hammer drilling today (vibrates the ground) and I got a raised eyebrow - as if to day.... things are vibrating! Snowballs the deaf cat is as placid as can be... I've never heard him hiss or spit but he has a bloody loud meow. Rufus the killer attack cat is the one who is unstable and leaves puncture wounds on arms. Traquilisers? Great idea. It's either Rufus mellows or one of them has to go.
  13. Okay, so today, Rufus the killer attack cat leapt onto me and left four neat incisor holes in my arm and claw marks everywhere. Unprovoked! Not happy!
  14. Niiiiiice! Seriously, though, thanks everybody for their helpful advice. We've looked at snowballs's snowballs and they are definitely larger than Rufus's..... The sorting out of that might help. The kitty tranquilisers are a good idea, and might help the settling-in process. Wish we'd known about them earlier. I don't really want to rehome either cat. Snowballs is a couch cat, that keeps your lap warm, and if we had a guard dog he'd dig holes all over the place... so we have Rufus!
