  1. fast isnt always best, you can make your own food just aim to get something 30+%protein not too much calcium as does more harm than good to insects, best to dust prior to feeding out if predator requires extra calcium (shouldnt do if on varied diet) too much calcium = hard shel'd insects, worse case restricting them been able to shed therefore killing them. also makes them harder to digest for predator/reptile etc upping the chance of blockages cat/dog biscuits blended up and or fish flake are commonly used, this way you know whats going into the bugs - reptiles to a certain extent anyway......no point risking melamine contaminated food  pre-made "cricket" food is to costly for what its worth imo as crickets go through heaps - i go through atleast a 4litre container of food per week which is for a few thousand crickets but still they like to eat. hth
  2. all good info cheers repto good to refresh me old young memory
  3. as per title which is the correct spelling? ive always thought it to be vitticeps but see a couple on tm spelling it like vitticepts tia
  4. colar with bell for the cat may help
  5. one on trademe from shop in te-awamutu. about $50 a lil pricey i thought offer (preferably live) crickets/locusts and or roaches, mealworms shouldnt be the staple anyway and beetles arnt the best. If only have dead available and bd's eating its salad how about puting the bugs in the salad? or try bugs on the end of a kebab stick and tease the lil fellow he may think its alive
  6. nice bike 1800cc Happy Birthday Caryl
  7. if cops said they had a call and need to make an arrest...just an idea but male could of said ok well i want to press charges against the women for assault. more chance of case been thrown out if like that and if male not guilty and she is then why not? most men wear it on the chin when assaulted and get over it but women that take advantage of the system deserve to be held accountable for there actions imo
  8. justice system is setup to protect women and children just the way it is unfortunately men sometimes get dealt an unfair hand Stick to your story and hope that the truth prevails. Sorry cant be of more help the system is really harsh at times good luck

  11. Did you just Ill send you an invoice
  12. Theyre a different species going on what ive found online, have found more than one scientific name though  I never thought much of them until i bred them, the worms are much faster and once theyre over 5mm they start going black on the top half of the body and only get to a size of 10-12mm, one overseas firm selling them claims theyre really high in protein but that could be just a sales pitch. Theyre really fast so predators (baby bds etc) seem to catch on to them quick smart. Breed well to just a lil more tricky to harvest given there size. Spoke to someone yesterday who said theyve been around for years but had a bad rep (apparintly abit hard to digest) but looks like thats abit of a myth like the one that mealworms can chew out of the dragons.
  13. guttered man fingers x'd he returns home soon
  14. Anyone else finding small beetles (about 5mm) or fast little black worms popping up in there cultures? Ive been buying mealworms from biosupplies for a couple of years and about 6 months ago noticed some small beetles (half the size of the common sort) in my cultures so went about separating them to see if they bred true to type or were just runty old mealworms (tenebrio molitor). As it turns out yes they breed true and the worms only get to about 10mm before pupating into beetles, worms also darken before maturing and move much faster than the common sort. Done some googling and turns out theyre "mini mealworms". I have a feeling theyre just a common beetle you find in gardens as im sure ive seen them before but never really thought much of it but I also cant find anything online about people having/breeding them in nz which is abit weird. blah blah blah anyway just curious has anyone else come across these? tia
  15. not everyone keeps axolotls to breed some just enjoy having something different - once morphed they look amazing abit like a big newt and for memory they take on different colours compared to the un-morphed. google has some pics i think. its a silly rule IMO as said above - its still an axolotl morphed or not (just slightly more mobile) , and what does one do if there axie does it on its own which remotely possible, sad thing is if owner has in all aquatic tank and the axie tries morph it will likely die without access to land..anyway no point complaining or they maybe banned outright!
  16. easy once you get the basics sorted....food and water Key is to alway have water source otherwise they die real fast. i use carrot or potato but also chuck in greens that i use for my bd's salads every few days (nasturtians, mustard, parsley, etc etc) other thing is if overcrowded or dry food (cat/dog biscuits) runs out they will eat each other and your numbers can drop considerably witout a trace survive happily at 15C+, i keep my rooms around 25 C but upto 30C is all good if you want to speed them up (just have to be abit more onto it with food and water) hth
  17. have seen females do this also but generally not pitch black like males male = buisness time or possibly threatened and trying to look staunch? female = threatened therefore trying to look staunch tail darkening and sticking upwards is normally a staunch/hunting stance could be wrong just my 2 cents from what ive observed
  18. Correct or at least my goldens dont seem to be as prolific as the common variety. maybe they eat the babies as they stand out more but who knows.. even the commons can seem not so productive if conditions arnt so good.
  19. handouts dont help anyone imo - speaking to a mate in aus a few weeks after this and media over there was saying that most just paid debt/bills which govt didnt want Best thing for a recession is positive thinking and just getting on with life imo
  20. I see just yesterday lolanto on tm now has a calcium supplement without D3 like anything all in moderation i suppose. clover suppose to be high in calcium for memory.
