  9. correct godragon..i think hothouse was more getting at were they legally bought into the country (years ago before import ban ) therefore legit.
  10. didnt you breed yours before 1 year old or attempt to or get eggs atleast? anyway as repto has said best to not to, abit like dogs your best to let em grow up before breeding them. 2nd year imo

  16. maf guy been here looking for "superworms" a couple of weeks back..ive never had them and everything else i got is just run of the mill so all good but hmmm apparently the superworms are a new organism but i have a feeling they've been here a long time
  17. very interesting i thought there was just the one azolla and was abit of controversy whether native or not but your theory seems to make more sence, its the smallest fern in the country/world i remember reading? people do call azolla large duckweed...it may not be correct but makes sence
  18. out of 3 sources of the common bns i got from around wellington or the hutt valley (about 2 years ago) not one female had bristles that i noticed...oh actually some of the ladies down there did but theyre another story haha
  19. should be fine i dont think it will take over the pond as fish will eat it - keep goldfish well fed and you may have success growing it in there. its one of those plants, grows well when you dont try not so well when you try :-? possibly try azolla (large duckweed) but that stuff really is a pest takes over lakes something cronic and im not sure if goldfish will eat it but i suspect they do as my mothers pond has been setup for 2-3 years and all surrounding natural waterways (within 100meters or so) are full of it and birds travel between the ponds yet no duckweed/azolla in my mothers pond full of goldfish. wouldnt hurt to try the common duckweed. i dont think it will take over your pond
  20. great plant, high protein, high nutrient user - perfect greens for turtles, apple snails some fish (generally large), goldfish eat it especially if you forget to feed them  used in sewage treatment overseas - perfect for turtle ponds uses nutrient until eaten - perfect for baby turtles its the only greens ive ever seen them eat at a young age to answer your question, some fish, applesnails etc will clean up for you otherwise net it out mission on unfortunately
  21. carrots my favorite but also banana skin they seem to love, also sliced apple sometimes can use potato but carrots my preference read just the other day about bread been used - sprayed with water first but im not sure i like the idea dont change bran just add an inch, let beetles lay then take out or let em die and once mealworms get of size they will consume all the bran (turns into powdered frass/poo) and i just add more bran as they run out every couple of days etc ....sieve out frass every few days/weekly
  22. less is best i use about an inch deep, add more bran as mealworms need/eat it. too much bran just makes collecting mealworms a mission or you end up with heaps of bran left over once mealworms have all grown and been fed out. also if culture gets too moist - adding fresh dry bran helps get the balance right again only add more vege once last lot gone as too much can result in mites - mites thrive on moisture so dry out good and proper and they should go away.
  23. worms to beetle - about 12 weeks kept at 25 C? beetle to laying - within day or so of been a beetle beetle death - 4wks maybe more? eggs hatch - 10-14 days so move beetles every 14 days eggs turn to mealworms - same as eggs hatch mealworms to beetle again 10-12weeks? when the beetles are moved to a new container, how long do i wait before i put them to another one. - 14 days intervals how do i know they have laid one clutch of eggs? - theyre always laying theyre a pest
