  1. nice setup ae, ive seen this online b4. interesting theres atleast a couple of large scale breeders in the states who use sand for babies through to adults.
  2. this is where i got the idea http://www.freewebs.com/crossfireenclosures/ glass is good and at $200 for a 4 foot that is possibly the cheapest way to go - especially if you value your time.
  3. can get fluro fittings from hardware store (double 2 foot about $30-40) nt as good as fancy pet shop jobs as doesnt have reflector - you could make one i geuss. Heat lamp ($5-20) any light fitting from hardware store but will need wiring up, get one rated to atleast 100 watt so you can adjust bulbs to get the correct basking temp, (i use 40-100 watt bulbs) dark rock seems to attract/hold higher temps = saving power. Can use most timbers although ive read mixd opinions i thnk the main thing is to seal it with polyurethane/paint glass tanks ok but breaks easy and im good a breaking things lol heres the first tank i slapt together - was an old cabinet but i pretty much rebuilt the whole thing added a couple of shelves, vents, lights and sliding doors old recyled perspex. abit rangi all around but it serves its purpose. its about 1400 long 400 deep
  4. must be about a year maybe just over, still got abit of filling out to do and colour to gain (that pic must be atleast a couple of months old to)
  5. cool pics - the cat cracks me up and apple snail with we snorkel is cool be good idea to add basking light to turtles if there isnt one in there (about $15 bux warehouse clamp lamp with 60watt light bulb) they love the heat
  6. true good as would be about a year old id say saves abit of livefood so all good by me long may it last
  7. true didnt think of tht - prob a good thing in my case. nice clean slate lol
  8. click pm delete txt then should be swt to send pm? cant view profiles now as far as im aware
  9. baby - bout 8wk old soaking up some sun today i like this photo -almost looks like he has an ora (sp)
  10. buy now works - but you have to pay success fees for every sale - everyone sees the quantites you sell and cant just email and ask questions. can sorta understand where they coming from as some list classified all summer selling copious amount paying just the once off listing fee but still
  11. not really a way around it, pain in the a, rules changed the day i tried list a classified for my crickets  i had few heatered emails with tm as they used to pull auctions for anything rare (if someone complained) as it was policy not to auction living things like turtles because highest bidder wasnt necessarily going to good home. now you can only auction the reptiles but not dogs or even guinea pigs, full turn around they seen the dolla signs......... joke huh can list classified for lost frogs though
  12. congrats on the croaking thats got to be a good sign. i memba veranophile mentiond feeding up then adding more water to tank with rain chamber on timer to come on at night to stimulate rain to get em in the mood. you must have water in the tank and some plants? should do there own thing - keep eye for eggs whip them out treat similar to newts i geuss. i tried old rain chamber on mine but they just lap up the water and keep getting fatter not enough hormone or maybe the wrong kind lol
  13. live pinkies can swim, makes it more natural for turtles.................so ive been told lol
  14. someone had long haired ones on trademe about a year ago.
  15. beardies dont live on a beach (sand) or a sandy environment as far as im aware, i think you will find the natural habitat is more along the lines of compacted clay but i could be wrong. besides compaction which can happen - bacteria build up in sand is obvious so needs replacing often which is a mission. - artificial grass can be taken out hosed off dried and put back - clean and green  nothing natural about keeping them in a tank really, when keeping them in an artificial environment artificial grass makes perfect sence to me and is pretty much 100% safe, just my 2 cents
  16. just a joke, dixons the joker so thought since we all taking jokes lmsmith may take him  anyway id recommend a bd over a wd not that ive had wds but from what ive read over the past couple of years theyre less petable if thats even a word i dunno - but if you can provide a safe outdoor setup and like something more on the wild side (i do  ) wds maybe the go, they sure look amazing and get abit larger according to some reports ive read.
  17. does that mean your going to take dixon?
  18. also noticed this monring my bds seem to like yellow flowers more than red. i offer mustard flowers (yellow) down the hatchet they go - i offer red nasturtians nothing happens i offer yellow nasturtians and wam munch munch - another case of food for thought
  19. chopped up fresh, grated or cooked ? I just got given half a grocery bag of the stuff I been munching out the bds can have a couple of bits im feeling generous
  20. other we trate that suggests theyre diff to commons is the female gets slight bristles - cant say any of my common females had bristles that i noticed?
  21. came from a breeder in welly a year or 2 ago i suppose- he will post if he chooses to. pretty sure theres been posts in past about these... Not normally blochy - yes i know bns go blotchy if you upset them but generally these are dark/black especially the fry. my pics arnt to flash but you get that prob just some hybrid i agree just thought some catfish guru maybe able to shed some light, theyre very similar to com bns but imo theyre not (you sorta need to see them in flesh) hence why i never mixed them up and wouldnt want them x'd to them in future etc. I have kept and bred a fair few commons and none looked quite like these. and yep cleans the same as bns almost even looks the same
  22. yea they look similar to the common bn but theyre not 8) no dixon your not much help - are you trying to get you post count up or something? theres more to life
  23. Yes they look like common bns but theyre not - not sure why 2 on left in first pic appear gold pics were taken in pitch black (at night) with flash on camera maybe stressed. anyway these are darker than common bn female gets slight bristles and generally are darker in appearance - fry especially dark pretty much black also in certain light have a metallic gold like shene to them (sorta see on large male in second pic) if that makes sence (prob not but hey i dont make sence whats new  ) hardly see them as they just doing there own thing in tank with little tlc but noticed male getting rather large possibly bigger than commn bns recently and his bristles havent even branched yet. food for thought, anyone want to geuss what they are feal free.
