  2. Small plant left in first pic maybe Callitriche stagnalis if Cesarz is correct and its the same plant i posted pic about in thread below? viewtopic.php?f=2&t=35246
  3. good point...more interested in just the breeding something diff but if viable you never know i suppose pretty sure the brown cricket isnt native or atleast its distributed worldwide (if its the one im thinking of)
  4. mine started to die off after a couple of days.. maybe needed to do waterchanges? possibly feed em algae, fish flake???
  5. lil brownies maybe worth breeding, i never realized nz had so many grasshoppers thats awesome
  6. red grasshoppers gimme gimme  lol back legs just came off ive got it in a smallish container one day i noticed 1 leg off then the next day both....must of been trying to leg it  still alive about a week later i hope it lays eggs i want to breed something different
  7. same old guppies ive had for past couple of years....originally snakskin x neon blue tuxedo i think with abit of metalic in there somewhere now get all sorts some with lyretails (or what ever theyre called) i let them go to the pack really but it is a nice mix now turtles didnt eat them so back in they come lol
  8. found this lil hopski one night, cant remember seeing one of these before anyone else find these?? p.s its missing the back legs..... google image tells me its a long horned grasshopper or something similar...
  9. Just a couple of pics, caught these out of the pond today, getting down in temp now so thought id better bring them in....pics dont do them justice the colours are amazing, must be the sun. Will try catch some with blue colouration next time i feel like some fishing
  10. salt bath should help eyes if infected also clean water and lots of dry basking good to see he's still hanging in there Donna
  11. nz couriers wouldnt pickup anything live for me so didnt bother getting an account with them...they will take but not pick up :-? nz post :-? mixed bag really, seems different policy in every post shop otherwise ive found them good in the past but even better take straight to courier post and send (same company as far as i know just dif name) fastways seem reasonable going on website prices - maybe thats for account holders ($12 north and $25-30 south nz post i think are about $15 north $30 south going rates seem to be about; 15-20 north is. 24-40 south island pretty good when you can purchase something at one end of the country today and it be here tomorrow  some people absorb some of the costs of postage and or have accounts which normally means cheaper as appose to cash sales clients
  12. congrats (its a boy ) and all the best man
  13. if your creative maybe have a look in electrical shop maybe use hot water cylinder thermostats...hmm maybe not but theres all sort of parts in electrical stores you just have to wire your self, the pricey ones are normally all ready to use, i reckon a digital thermostat would be worth bringing into the country if anyone wants to or knows where i can get them at a reasonable price
  14. you get what you pay for with thermostats as Alan has said and worth it for reptile eggs? sim - exoticpets on trademe sells thermostats, not 100 % accurate but not bad temp fluctuates a we bit not sure id use to incubate eggs of value but ok for insects, basking lights etc about 30-40 each i think if you want his email send me a pm
  15. i always put em under water, i have noticed some get water in them after a while and ive had some electric tanks in the past which i have a feeling is due to the heaters having water in them...in saying that i get shocks of everything here even the washing inside the machine
  16. i thought they were a no no but after doing a quick google search im not so sure, some say ok some say not ok ant eggs seem a definite yes though pretty sure ants here do have formic acid in one form or another thats why they stink if you put hot water on them...i could be wrong
  17. tiger worms poisonous or just yuck? lol something tells me tiger worms arnt as good as the red earth worms remember reading something about tiger worms not so good for feeding to something..turtles maybe? does this ring a bell with anyone else or just me
  18. yea its normal for them to go off food slightly generally before shedding can also go off food somedays for no reason dont worry they will eat when they want/need
  19. green leaves like nasturtian, dandilion and clover are great, ive got half a dozen troughs planted with clover, parsley mint & mustard. even one big pot planted should feed the lil guy most the above plants grow like weeds.
  20. i bought vents from bunnings, only put one on each end but will probably put another 2 on the back of enclosure aswell before next summer. my enclosure is 1400long x 600 deep vents are 300x150
  21. yes sure are dont feed to anything, i always had swan plants around until getting beardies not worth the risk as caterpillars can move some distance
  22. cool, im still waiting for one of my adults to shed and the rest of its tail to appear
  23. i may have some in a few months but hard to say as season here is abit like the weather (muddled up  ) generally its breeding season through summer months but like everything there can be exceptions. crickets are fine u get used to them jumping around pretty quick, they only fly when adults and generally only females - bd shouldnt be eating adults for atleast first 6months as reptilenut mentioned scoop em up works well, roaches can and will climb glass (or atleast the species we have in nz do, i dont think dubias are here) so theyre more tricky as compared to crickets imo. i only handle crickets if i see an escapee & i have a bd thats so lazy she likes to be hand fed  , i dont recommend hand feeding it creates lazy lizards but it is a buzz...trying to keep fingers in tack lol, was hand feeding crix to the frogs today that was cool, i love how they use there hands to get the cricket into there mouth and close there eyes like something gross has touched them  . other option is put an egg carton, toilet rolls etc into cricket bin just pull out and shake into a bucket or plastic bag (bags work well for dusting supplements to) then pour crickets into tank for bd etc, oh if bd doesnt eat them all i also pick them up/take out to avoid nibbles but yea theyre only bugs you soon get used to it. mealworms dont jump nor bite but should only be fed as treats, thats just my opinion others will vary. slaters seem to go down a treat. other option is locusts, most people have good success with them just need plenty of grass at hand for best results. hth
