  1. nice one Elaine, hopefully its a start of new things for the lil fella. My beardies gobbled down some grapes for the first time a while back, seem to like alot
  2. Frogs here arnt poisonous as far as I know. Ive heard of people using tadpoles for turtle tucker. I wouldnt recommend it though NZ needs more frogs not less. Id assume they would be much like pinkies (mice) fed as a treat? Dont the French eat frogs? (different species maybe but still) Why cant you monitor the amount of crickets they eat as compared to the mealworms? Mealworms arnt the best food for Reptiles anyway so maybe a good thing they dont like them.
  3. stick a webcam on the meeting ill be there.....in spirit...or is that cyber
  4. I cant figure out why ones going for it and the other isnt. maybe now youve seperated Munch he will get some up an go
  5. yep just go to bunnings buy a clip on desk lamp (about $10-20) and use that for the basking light, they take upto 60watt standard houshold bulb. reptile fluro will set you back a bit more but a must have really.
  6. mealworms are like lollies (2 beardies), and bds seem to get fussy fast. Somehow got to get them eating other bugs. Maybe stop offering the mealies all together, they will eat crickets long before they starve to death. Im starting to go away from mealworms, theres alot of bad press out there about them some even claim they should never be fed to reps and amphibians. Im sure alot of its hot air but theres got to be some reasoning behind it. Theyre definately not as good as roaches, crickets, locusts on the nutritional front If i feed more than half a doz of the mealworms now they seem to come out the other end looking like mealworm chutney  not digested like #2's should be lol a doz or more and looks like someone shot them out of a gun......splat  Also make sure enclosure nice and dry, clean/dust free. I remember you put a fan in the enclosure to suck out heat? Shouldt be too bad if sucking air out but cold drafts arent so good for reptiles so maybe something to think about especially at this time of year.
  7. true im sure you can work it out theres an eel farm in Levin or atleast thats what i thought it was...they export/ed them i was lead to beleave ??
  8. thats amazing what a beast. going to breed them or ??
  9. not maggots imo wierd they havent changed into a moth/beetle but they seem to be reproducing
  10. ive been tempted to do a bit of taste testing
  11. Id be inclined to find plastic tub for them in the mean time, may take a few days atleast to get tank redone then couple of days for silicon to cure? otherwise what your doing should be ok. Cycling a turtle tank is good. Prevents the algae probs you can get with out doing so, also keeps things more stable for the turtles. not a biggy but if you can try keep filter going thats great but its prob to late now anyway just keep up with water changes once setup again. Baths are good but can be trouble. I was dropping some turtles off to someone recently and they pointed out to me there bath was stained (apparently permanent) from the fish they had in the bath for a month or so.. When i was renting i put some in the bath while moving house....turtles pulled the plug and the heater i had in there melted nicely into the plastic bath woopsy.
  12. yikes not sure maybe try some iodine but hopefully someone with abit more expertise in the area can help.
  13. 20 left, 40 left middle, 40 right middle and 20 right = 120 tanks very tidy room
  14. tank girl or someone on tm used to stock those sort. boyu was the brand i thnk.. possibly a bit noisy but fr cost probably a good buy.
  15. yep . if indoors you want temp over 18C as they cant really digest food below that and start wanting to hibernate which isnt a good idea in a tank. basking/heat lamp maybe enough to warm tank to if havent got one already
  16. outdoors winding down prob stop feeding now for winter?
  17. used to find heaps of these at the last place i lived at. behind the dead bark on willow tress.
  18. only just seen this post dont worry beardies do what they do, mine are indoors but still brumate randomly thoughout the year. one went into brumation befroe xmas only came out about 4week ago - full of lif e again eating like a horse. another 2 fems went into there hidey box's about 2-3 weeks ago and been alseep since (ive turned off the lights) so hopefully they stay put for a couple more months. Brumations a good thing part of there natural cycle, theyre amazing how they can just stay put for a couple or 3 months and then one day out they come ready to get on with life Good for breeding to theyre full of beans after a good sleep.
