  1. Ok well after looking around at getting marines for so long now we saw this and thought it would be a good buy and alright tank to start with... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=81755097 Were picking it up this weekend and was wondering if anyone can give us any advice for the move... Am I sweet to go and use water from the sea in it or do I make up my own water for it.. Im going to transport as much water as possible back, also regarding the "3x soft corals and 2x hard corals" how do you transport these? I presume is a vessel with water etc but are they pretty sensitive to changes etc? Also any other advice..
  2. when i got argonite I had the same problem I spent ages and ages cleaning the stuff until it ran clear but im sure if you set your tank up with filter etc it will have settled by the next day..

    Not Happy

thats what i was thinking setup the smaller tank and setup a bigger one as well can never have too many Or for 50 is cheap enough to use outside for goldfish or mountain minnows or whatever you want..

lol yeah i did the same thing bid on a 6ft tank off trademe with fish and gear it turned out to be just on 4ft the lady just guessed 6ft.. I still got it for an ok price and the gear is still in use so yeah not all bad but always pays to confirm and ask if measurements are exact or guesses etc..
  5. when your moving any tank is too big.. lol the movers loved moving my 5x2x2 made from like 12mm glass and lots of bracing But generally 3ft's are good you can generally move them yourself or with your partner and they dont hold alot of water so water changes are easier as is filtration etc but its a pretty open ended question..
  6. lol tell me about moving were moving auckland to bulls and have thinned the tanks down to 8 setup filled with fish ranging from aftricans to discus awesome the big move and fish pack happens tomorrow..
  7. Yeah I use tonic and drop it directly on the fungus I also add a bit of salt to the water but I guess that depends what you have in there with the angel..
  8. Yeah sounds like a good mix dont worry too much about things cross breeding with yellows as long as you have enough mates for everyone you should be ok, I dont think many haps cross easily but I haver heard that any mouthbrooding african can cross so yeah anythings possible..
  9. ah I see I forgot that mbuna meant rock dwelling  What a dumb ass.. There are the peacocks the haps and the mbuna, I have all 3 and some tangs in my tank but people dont recommend putting peacocks in with mbuna as they're suppose to be too aggressive and pester the peacocks too much if anything my peacocks are beating up the mbuna at the moment but my peacocks are bigger than them..
  10. I dont really know what your talking about when you talk about rock dwelling and non rock dwelling malawi's as such ive never really heard them described like that.. Where did you get your info from and what fish were they describing? Some of them do like to school in the open and some of them do like rocks but ive never really heard them divided like that..
  11. 2 200's will be sweet you generally go for 1W per litre but its good to have 2 that will do it individually in a bigger tank so that if one gives up the other will carry on until you can fix it.. External filters are the best the only thing really to use (except a sump) on a bigger tank.. As for brand just keep an eye out and try for yourself if your only wanting to spend $150 you will probably be limited to aqua one or jebo of the 2 id go for Jebo.. As for malawi's most of them are rock dwellers and its a good idea to have alot of rocks and also open space it can be hard getting a good compatible stocking list, generally try and get fish that are different colours as the same coloured males will scrap with each other..
  12. lol id go with Eheim and Jebo over fluval my 404's crap.. And I use the cheap heaters they're awesome esp when you get 300W for $20.. I have had 1 die and that was from new they have a 12 month warantee so just took it back and got a new one
  13. you have been pm'd where to get it from
  14. Did anyone elses have really uneven and random barring when little (I think I may have some out of the same batch or female as mystics although I never saw the pic).. They are only small though I wonder if it will grow out?

Awesome love demasoni when I grow up some of the babies I have im setting up a demasoni/yellow tank will have 15-20of each white substrate and coral sand so there will just be blue and yellow should look awesome What else you planning to put with yours?
  17. how big are those guys? And how old are they? They look awesome!
  18. Hey ours are doing great we got 5 of the smaller ones hoping to get a few more soon they are living in a grow out tank with ice blues red zebs and demasoni babies.. although they are the biggest fish in the tank they dont cause any trouble and at all and just cruise around will post pics when I take some
  19. Awesome Paul very nice pic.. Were moving down there soon so will have to come and visit you and grab some off you
  20. Is it the same one you have in your album's? If so it looks like a fluval maybe 3+ internal filter..

    Cichlids

yeah if your going for africans maybe start here http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/i ... n_list.php and keep going you can get lost in all the articles on cichlid forum thats for sure And when your ready to buy fish post on here and ask around to see whats out there and what people are breeding locally..

    Cichlids

I think like at least frenchy has suggested first port of call would be water tests... To keep africans in my water (it has no buffering at all) I have to have limestone rocks and/or crushed coral/argonite substrate to keep the ph steady.. If your water is naturally stable and the right conditions for malawi's you wont need to use too much stuff..

    New Tank

Hey your link appears to be bad for some reason the pic wont work for me
  25. Maybe he sustained some injury when he trapped himself? Or got some sort of swim bladder problem that caused him to loose his stability and then swim around erratically before getting stuck. The only african I ever lost from disease or whatever died the same way but when it lost is balance it was very close to the end for it it hadn't eaten and was looking off colour for at least a week. has yours been fine leading upto this?
