  2. Yeah what Tropheus said, I noticed you posting on that guys auction on trademe as well He rung me up and couldn't understand how they were hybrids or how it was wrong etc so in the end I just gave up.. Unless local breeders with good fish will sell you them buy fish you know look right from shops and get them id'd on cichlid-forum is what I do. Good luck, did you find any tropheus?

Sweet, you sold your breeders though didn't you rcon? We got some too but I think I screwed up the sexing and one of the girls turned into a male so was hunting for a female saw one holding in a petshop so got her.. So maybe when shes recovered and conditioned they may breed for us.
  9. Yeah they were only on the list for a short time luckily a few people on here got colonies From my research they aren't aggressive to other fish just to their own kind or anything the same colour so they shouldn't have too many problems..
  10. I find I can take ok pics with the camera on auto flash on with a slight angle on the camera (so the flash doesn't reflect straight back into the camera). heres some we've taken with our cam its nothing flash doesn't even have macro's.. http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f183/ryanjury/fish/ Unfortunately most of those fish aren't with us anymore but you get the idea Just edited to say you have to take 100's of pics and delete 99% of them to get one descent one.. But thats the beauty of digital.
  11. Just seal it up good.. I seal the bottom of tanks that size all the time..
  12. Just stick a bit of glass over it and make sure its well supported its only a small tank..
  13. lol your lucky Ours scrap like theres no tomorrow 2 or 3 always have ripped fins and thats in a 5ft full of rocks they're awesome little guys. We used to have them in a grow out tank as well but decided to just chuck them in with the big fish so they could fend for themselves...
  14. I had an old tank that sorta style break randomly as well. Cracked in half on the front pane of glass.. Luckily I was home and the water pouring onto the floor woke me up, I put the break down to a chip that was sealed under the plastic fitting that the lid fits onto probably made at the time of manufacture, so thats the type of thing I would be looking at for random breakage. Good luck fixing it I just did a hori job fixing mine and just turned the tank around and sealed a bit of glass over it becuase I couldn't be bothered pulling it right down and the rest of the tank was black silicon etc so didn't want to butcher it too much.
  15. Watch them then from what ive heard anything less than 6-8 (in some peoples advice even upto 12) ends up being one.. Our 7 seem to be going alright mind you they're not even an inch yet and in a 540litre 5ft so they have alot of room to hide..
  16. We had 8 but lost 1 apparently they kill each other off if you have less than 12 because they're really aggressive dont know if thats what happened to it or if it got eaten (as they're in with other africans that are alot bigger than them) who knows, they always have shreaded fins from fighting, one had a huge sore on one side of it and was swimming weird and I thought it was a gonner but it seems to have healed up and only has a scar to show for it.. So they're pretty tough. We will probably keep a few babies and build up our colony first hopefully we have a few more females in our lot that breed soon as they dont have many babies..
  17. Yeah with our fish its different we've had to shuffle a few around tanks so they breed true otherwise the dommiant male bashes them and breeds with their girls.. Needless to say we usually end up watching all the spawnings or grow the babies to a size where you can easily tell they're pure so we dont have problems, even after spawning you can easily tell who's bred because he'll still be smashing everyone and still trying to breed with the holding female.
  18. Actually just looked in our tank and one of ours is holding :)
  19. They have gone of the wholesale list according to all the shops ive asked we have 7 and hope to breed them as do a few other people on here so unless you can find someone who wants to sell theres maybe wait until everyones bred them..
  20. Yeah I guess its the same old story any african will cross breed given the chance, best bet is to make sure you have males and females of each fish and watch them, even if you have males of one species the more dominant male may just bash them and breed with their females anyway.. I have seen a few times on cichlid forum people posting in unidentified asking what their fish is and everyone says its the common electric yellow zebra cross breed so I assume is common as well. I think ive seen a few that look like them in shops a different shaped fish thats an off yellow with no black markings at all. I guess the problem would be if you crossed it back to a zebra you would get something that looks like a zebra but an odd shape.. I guess thats why electric yellows and zebras can get so messed up..

    Overflows

Hmm I have the same problem but I can actually get into my overflow, the sound of the water rushing down the triangle overflow and hitting the bottom is quite loud and the sound of the water hitting the filter media below as well. I was planning to make a spray bar type arrangement at the bottom to stop that noise but was unsure how to stop the noise in the overflow, whats the ball valve supposed to do? Also my plumbing has a tap in it which I can use to adjust the water flow from the pump, is this bad for the pump because I close it a little to stop the water building up too much in the overflow and gurgling through the pipe into the bottom. I dont have the sump running at the moment because its in the lounge and too noise just have an external filter on the tank but would love to get the sump going just keep forgetting to post so im sorry to steal your post Jude but you reminded me..
  22. I have some and im looking at the instructions right now... They are distributed by brooklands and have mebendazole and trichlorfon as the active ingrediants. I cant remember where I got them from some online site that ive lost now, the guy who sold them to me setup goldfish tanks in businesses etc cant even remember the companies name but he did have a site selling products really cheap. If someone knows what im talking about can they post the site because I want to try get more stuff off him
