  1. Yeah we added rainbows and they're great, other dithers that are good are pearl danios and basically anything friendly enough to come out and fast enough to get old of the way. I was going to use gold barbs (because they were 5 for $12) in one tank but managed to stick 2 rainbows in and they did the job. I had a similair problem when the PH fell but I see yours is fine so shouldn't be that.

    Duboisi Fry

Must be an awesome looking setup esp when you grow a few of the younger ones up Do they spit and leave the babies alone?

Do you let them spit in the tank with the parents or strip them? Are all your tropheus in together or in seperate tanks.

They dont have many do they? Are they still young? Or is it just usual for tropheus to have less fry? How many of each do you have in your colonies?

Awesome looks good Make sure you post on here when/if you want to sell them
  8. You can put a few fish in your tank probably start with electric yellows, and maybe a pair of peacocks or something, then maybe mix one species of zebra in there. Maybe 8-10 adults max (start of with more and thin out any ugly ones or excess males to get the ratio you require) Stay away from more aggressive or larger fish like giraffes johanni auratus etc. And I dont think carbon is needed in any tank I certainly dont use it in any of our tanks (unless im removing anything) and haven't had any problems. As for PH I guess it pays to keep it above 7 but as long as the fish are happy growing and breeding I guess it doesn't matter. I had the PH drop on a tank once with africans and they all sat around not happy at all until I raised the PH again and they were sweet. All of our tanks have coral sand in them either as substrate or in a stocking in the tank or filter just to buffer the water so the PH doesn't change too much. Good luck alot of people seem to be changing to africans so its good
  9. Yeah I just feed them whatever it seems to work But the babies are being difficult they eat flake from free swimming so its all good.

    Moonlight

Yeah ours only has 3 leds in it.. But for $12 its not a bad price for the leds I guess and you can just run them off a computer supply which you will find for stuff all somewhere..

    Moonlight

I dont know why would you want the fan? I have got one of these in my computer case I got for $12 so the price seems a little steep esp for the numbers your talking they also dont throw stuff all light just a glow. Well my cheap one doesn't anyway.
  12. Thats alot for a first spawn, we have an older female we got off someone on here and we just stripped 27 out of her, what did you feed yours? Mine dont seem to eat brine shrimp just take it into their mouths and spit it out..
  13. Yeah I saw one of those cool blue ones in rainbow springs (I think it was about 8 years ago it was one of those touristy places in rotorua anyway) and it looked awesome
  14. Yeah I use joandwillys method too usually only means I have one bucket to lift (the one full of all the crap I get out of the gravel) and tip all the sand out of that back into the tank. Then syphon the water out the window I dont think the net would work for our tank cuz the waste it sucks up is quite large and wouldn't go through the net.
  15. awesome We have the same with africans just stripped a heap of fish and have more holding i think we need more tanks but the misses isn't keen .. How are the yellows going steve?
  16. ryanjury

    newbie here

I see you made it over from nzh Have fun and I hope your tank goes well.. Im sure you will find answers to all your questions here
  17. Yeah saw the giraffe you put up but missed out.. I was keen on it I asked if you would hold it for 2 weeks... What happened you getting rid of everything or just a few?
  18. I think that maybe each female has a dominant male around that chases rival males away keeping them pure.. But yeah ive seen the video and it looks like they're all mixed in together a bit more room than the 5ft in our lounge though
  19. Keep them sell them whatever you want to do just cull any deformities. Have a look on cichlid-forum apparently in breeding has no adverse effect on fish.. I think it would do but there are a few interesting threads on there thats for sure

    Tonic salt

Yeah I got some of that cichlid salt sounds pretty gimiky to me and I wont be buying any more.. It contains a whole heap of stuff thats supposed to be really good for the fish btw tankgirl can get it in alot cheaper than the pet shop or you can just find how to on the net and make the same stuff for a tiny fraction of the price
  21. Yeah the beauty of digital aye I have only a few pics worth keeping but there are 100's that have been deleted, its hard with fish that keep moving and point/shoot cameras.. Esp when ours has no macro. And I have no tripod...
  22. Hmm I dunno looks like a zebra.. Maybe post it here these guys seem to know everything.. lol http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=14 Very nice pic by the way
  23. Yeah I guess it does look like too many stripes for kingsizei.. Maybe just some sort of zebra? I just dont know something looks different about it compared to a zebra though I just cant pick it..
  24. If you want something thats supposed to be planted but does grow really really well floating then indian fern is good.
  25. Just because he has it listed doesn't mean someone will buy it
