  1. Just because everyone thinks im telling tales.. You can clearly see the small fish the big giraffes and the male kadango and male peacock.. All looking fine and unharmed. Like everyone said its all about your fishes temperment and what works for you
  2. Sorry I used past and present text.. I HAD a big male kadango and a big male red shouldered peacock together until I lost a whole tank filled with fish, also in that tank I had big giraffes and tiny fish as mentioned even a 4cm female red shouldered peacock.. And at the moment I have 2 male kadango's ones pretty big and 2 of the exact same fish hes talking about adding to his mix. And I also have a huge male peacock in their as well (but hes an OB so gets on ok). Im just basing my opinions on what has worked for me we all know with fish that the personalities of the fish dictate what you can and cant do im saying its fine from what ive tried (but I do tend to just try things first and see what happens..) and you guys are commenting from what you've tried and seen. I have kept all manner of tiny fish (demasoni 2-3cm's fryeri 2-3cm's tiny yellows etc) in with the large giraffes I had I had 3 of them ranging from 12 to 15cm's and none ever got eaten.. So yeah noone has really given him an answer id say go for it but as with anything be ready to rescue them if it goes to crap..
  3. lol I got not many fish to breed and lots of empty tanks and even unused externals and everything..
  4. Yeah my big kadango and red shoulder used to scrap all the time.. But I have 2 of the exact same fish hes talking about in with big kadangos and they're fine.. When/if they colour up it may well be a different story but we'll see
  5. Yeah same as rcon Sell me some..
  6. Oh yeah I got some of them They're in a tank the same as the one you describe.. I have 2 kadango males (1 10cm one smaller) a big pair of OB peacocks heaps of zebras, lithobates, yellows, demasoni etc etc and nobody bothers them at all. As for what they are, they look like and im hoping they will be red shouldered peacocks as im looking for some females for the 2 lonely males we have.. Good luck and let everyone know how you get on
  7. Most people on cichlid forum dont recommend putting peacocks in mixed tanks as they are pretty passive and can get picked on however I have them in with alot of things and they're fine.. How could a 12cm giraffe get a 4cm peacock? I had my 15cm giraffes in with 2cm demasoni 1cm yellows and various other fish and they didn't eat them I doubt a 12cm could eat a 4cm peacock especially when peacocks are quite deep.. But again I haven't seen everything! Maybe Frenchy has a story to share Id say put them in keep a good eye on them and pull them out if they're getting too picked on.. And let everyone know how you get on.
  8. I cant seem to see the photos either? Any hints?
  9. I have kept peacocks in a similair tank with no problems at all.. I had a big red shouldered peacock male that liked to scrap with my big kadango male though because they are similair colours.. How big is your tank and what sort of peacocks you adding?

    Silica Sand

Its about the same grade as the argonite i have in my tanks maybe a little smaller, no problems with algae but there is about 20-30 bristlenoses and gba's in there so no algae can grow lol I only have it in one tank.. The stuff I have is a mix of darker colours the stuff I have seen is white..

    Silica Sand

I have heard it is neutral however haven't used it in any of our tanks we have some pool filter sand in the community tank that that appears neutral there is someone on here who I know uses silica sand in their tanks but dont want to mention their name in case they mind but im sure he will post when he reads this..
  13. Yeah bristlenoses are the best have them in all our tanks even the ones with the PH at 8.5 and they're sweet some of them have slightly ragged tails but nothing major and seem to be growing etc just fine.
  14. That looks like a kingsizei, in all the shops ive seen socolofi being sold as kingsizei so it looks like they were imported as that.. Like the Kenyi that were imported as blue zebras the other day so labelled that in the shops and having people wondering why half turn yellow.
  15. I would go with the extention lead idea if I was you you can get extention leads that are rated outside I cant remember the numbers but its called their IPX numbers or something like that I think IPX 5 is designed for outdoor use maybe googling it will bring you some luck ive lost all my notes on it.. Calling a sparky to get it done (unless you have a mate) would be rather expensive lol I would just do it myself but I know how to.. You can actually do your own wiring as per this site para 47 http://www.ess.govt.nz/rules/pdf/ESS_el ... lations%22 Bearing in mind you still have to get it tested by a sparky and you cant muck around in the switchboard. IMO If its not too much loading running a suitable extention lead or even 2 out there maybe even digging a hole for them and sticking them inside a pipe and burying them or something would be alot easier.
  16. lol you have 9 Any babies for sale? Im guessing by the fact you ask about breeding them you dont

    Feeder Fish?

wow glad someones not going to try and sell hybrid fry.. At 1inch though surely you will struggle to find something that will eat african's they're relatively big and fast and rugged.. I always feed them small as then theres no doubt they will get eaten. I have always wondered what I would do in your situation if I had raised some fry and realised at that size they were hybrids im sure someone else will have some ideas or something monster enough to eat them! On another side have you bred the alto comps yet Would be keen on some babies lol
  19. Yep I talked to a lady and she also tried to tell me they were bumblebees as well lol.
  20. did you get it from pet city? They had a heap of kenyi they were selling as zebras and so did jansens silverdale I talked to one of the guys out there and it turns out thats what they were imported and sold them them as... And they didn't want a bar of me telling them they definately weren't zebras.. He even mentioned the weird zebras they got in that were changing colours from blue to yellow.
  21. Unsure ill start it off with (very likely wrong) male kenyi, maybe cross?
  22. I would sell blue rams on here and trademe people are always looking for good quality healthy blue rams that wont die like the ones you buy from the pet shops. Nice looking spawn by the way im sure you will have no problems rehoming them all and getting a few $$ to cover the powerbill.
  23. All the above will eat any baby platties I suspect you have had babies but they have been gobbled up before you've seen them!
  24. Yeah im getting some as well Can never have too many
