I have a hagen one as well but the instruction books and colour scales got wet and stuck together when the movers packed them in a wet fishtank.. Can anyone give me the instructions and pics of the colour scales for the hagen no2 and nh3 test kits?

I think my test kit might be playing up maybe expired, I tested the tap water and got the same result even the water im going to add is the same... And its a colour that doesn't match upto the colour chart that ive got too..
  6. Also which noone has mention about the Halides is the huge wattage (compared to fluoro's) and it will push up your powerbill..

So what causes them to sulk? It was out for the first few days but now just sulks all the time.. And how exactly do these guys feed and what do they eat? Also ive noticed a heap of long brown tubes popping up around the place with a circle that looks like it has a mouth in the middle and tenticles around the side what are these guys?
  8. Yeah ive heard that I was also in the wanganui club ages ago and that was good but there doesn't seem to be much interest on here anyway..

Who's back? Thanks for all the advice out of all the corals soft and hard it seems that only one of the softies is sulking and it was the one that came out in the first day and then went back into hiding a few days after (probably as the ammonia levels went up) I have been to the beach today and got some water and ill make up some ASW as well and mix it all together and leave it overnight in the 3ft tank with a filter and heater and airstone then test it all tomorrow and do a water change to hopefully get the levels done a bit..
  10. I cant count 12 in the bottom pic so surely there's more than that..

sweet so is there anything else I can do? Water changes etc? Is this going to hurt the corals in the tank as ones looking pretty sad already..

I just tested the tank we've had sitting since we got it a few weeks ago and the ammonium (I presume ammonia) levels are still 6,0 ppm.. It has no fish in it at the moment I was just testing as I had presumed it would be zero as its filled with "live rock" when I got it but its not to be.. What can I do I guess I have to wait for the levels to drop and the live rock to actually be cycled or something like that?
  15. lol yeah thats the stuff I was trying to find but thought you would be on here soon enough IMO not worth the risk either..

    New Tank

Yeah I had a big piece wreak havoc on an african tank once, but if you stick it in a tank with suitable substrate or rocks to buffer the tank the ph should stay high or at least stable...
  17. Rumour has it that they are pretty bad in general for everything can even induce allergic reactions in people when handled.. I stay away from them mainly due to the potential risk (esp with africans and bloat etc) and amount of people that swear against them, im pretty sure Brad and Frenchy will jump on with more info as im pretty sure it was one of them that had more info..
  18. lol ive got a garage that will be setup with a proper fish room.. Yes we had alot of critters when we moved but have even more now.. Steph got 2 femish giants and 3 birds recently (rainbow lori and 2 ringnecks) and the cats about to burst.. And jades awesome still really well behaved for a puppy and really big now.. lol when you coming to visit? Also keep in touch regarding fish will send a box up when your setup..
  19. Awesome news on the 8ft Kirsty I was watching the auction thats for sure and would have been bidding on it too if I was still up there.. So the 8fter was braced ok then? I have been thinking of if since and hoping it didn't burst when filled and hoping I did a good enough job.. Also keep in touch will send you up some fish to stock your new one once you have it up im getting 3 more tanks today.. another 5ft and 2 540litre 900mm high 4ft's so setting up a fish room soon..
  20. Im setting up a fishroom in the garage dividing off the front half and lining it.. I was wondering what the best way to line it was, I was thinking just poly everywhere but was in talking to a mate today at placemakers and he was driving a forklift full of pink batts was thinking maybe that was the go? Whats better pink batts with maybe 5mm customwood overtop and the same on the roof or just poly everywhere?
  21. I dont know what the filters are like in those tanks personally but dont know of any good filters in those sorts of tanks.. As for stocking you could stick a whole heap in that sized tank I have a 540 litre 5ft and would easily stick say 10 electric blues, 10 yellows and some peacocks, an even nicer display would be all males if he wanted to go that way if its a display tank breeding probably isn't such a big deal..
  22. You can get yellow electric yellows, red either of the 2 red peacocks on the list.. You could chuck some orange red zebs in for some orange and blue I guess some sort of zebra lithobates or even demasoni..
  23. You can get red zebras that are actually red not orange but I haven't seen any around nz have heard people say they have them but haven't seen them.. Apart from that there are red kadango's and the rubins red maleri red and i guess the new dragons blood peacocks that are around I haven't seen yet but have some on order Also other options if you wanted red in a malawi tank would be some red rainbow's (cant remember the actual type of rainbow im no expert on them) or I was thinking of using odessa barbs because they're pretty cool and red and also relatively big and fast enough to avoid the other fish..
  24. Salt and a mild dose of white spot cure and a water change.. Ive found african fry are pretty hardy and had some white spot on some week old ones when I put them in a tank that had an outbreak.. And thats how I treated it..
