  1. H. umrosum is usually sold as callitrichoides, mislabeled and emersed in the nursery shops
  2. I kept tham for a coupleof years and they also came from Kaikoura. If I remember correctly they have a purple center.
  3. I found some of the information that came out of the discussion very interesting. The original post, on reflection, probably should not have been allowed to remain but was not replied to at that time (possibly for legal reasons). The posts have been locked rather than removed and that allows the posts to be read in the future. It was felt that a fair chance had been given to respond to the original post and answer any accusations made but without blaming one side or the other it was becoming a slanging match and what needed to be said had been said so little would be gained by allowing it to continue. As was suggested, anyone wanting the complete story can apply to the court persuant to the Official Information Act and would therefore be party to the "actual truth"
  4. There are many ways to do it. I use heat emitters for heat night and day and flouro UV for 12 hours during the day. Remember that the UV needs to be no more than 300mm from the beardie when it is basking.
  5. All of the carpting plants will grow up to the light if it is not strong enough. If carpets when emersed then it will do so when submersed if there is sufficient light.
  6. It does not matter who it is if we are only stating facts. That is why we all use pseudonyms.
  7. I find that the ziplocks leak so I double bag in normal bags and tie knots.
  8. When Maf biosecurity turned up at my place after I bought a plant from Plantman on Trademe (he was subsequently convicted on a number of counts) I was shown the ID and a copy of their right of entry. I remember commenting that the wording looked very familiar. As a retired Envirnmental Health Officer I was aware that the wording was virtually the same as in the Health Act (and no doubt had been copied from there). They don't need a search warrent, they need to have good cause to believe that a breach of the relevent Act has occured. The police need a search warrent if they were present (unless there are drugs involved).
  9. The advantage of killies is that you can post the eggs. They do do better when the weather is a bit warmer than at present (unless you pack them specially with heat pads).
  10. To work I would think that it would bleed an antimicrobial compund which may not be a good thing.
  11. It can, but the moderators have yet to decide if it will. The more this post gets personal the more likely both posts will be removed so please cool it and allow the moderators time to assess the situation.
  12. The post has been removed to avoid a slanging match. It is good that both sides have been given and the post may be re instated after consideration. However, personal attacks are against the rules so please try hard to avoid being warned or worse while the matter is considered by the moderators. Ya got in first LA.
  13. Sag have single male or female flowers, Vallisneria have multiple male or female flowers on one stem and Echinodorus tenellus has single bisexual flowers. Great looking pics by the way.
  14. I have light dimmers on the flouro lights I have on the reptile enclosure. They take about half an hour to fully come on and the same to go off. They operate 2 x t8s and are available in pairs of 20,30, and 40 watts I think. The main disadvantage is that they will only operate two tubes and you cannot turn only one off. They have a timer which sets for 10,12 or 14 hours. They are usually available on trademe on the reptile section I think. On an aquarium I have 2x15 watt incandescant bulbs on dimmers that stay on 24/7 and act as pilot lights so the fish don't get a complete fright when the flouros come on. Incandescent bulbs are the cheapest form of red light for plant growth.

  16. I am told they are better when they have been pigging out on konini berries. They get marinated during storage.
  17. Excel will substitute for CO2 and provide carbon.
  18. It definately is starting to get boring.

  20. Hope you enjoy your time here.
  21. Most nocturnal animals don't like light and are likely to hide in strong light. Nocturnals are usually more active at dawn and dusk when the light is very low.
  22. Or get it to flower and seed and then you would have hundreds to give away.
  23. The scary bit is that she hit a pushbike and her chinese electric assist is a complete right off. The front forks have crumpled completely. Hate to think what it would be like if it hit a car.
  24. The reason the Government allows a whitebait season is that they are the collective of a bunch of politicians. You wouldn't buy a second hand car from a politician so don't expect them to be interested in much more than being re elected. I am sure that they have to pass an IQ test to stand for parliament (and get less than 30). When this Government allowed cats in food premises they passed the IQ test in my opinion.
  25. Think about how much damage to the bottom life of a waterway that a fish that big could do.
