  1. Hi guy's what the best value co2 kit for a 180-200L tank. I've been looking around but I'm a bit confused. My purpose for it is in my semi planted festivum tank. Just to help keep the plant life in good condition.
  2. I find it relaxing excuse the cheese but almost therapeutic :smln:
  3. Anyone had any success breeding these?
  4. So in the end I didnt listen to anyone and used my pH kit to correct the pH. When I got home from work the pH was out of wack again :an!gry What I did do was buy a kH kit and test the hardness. As suspected my water is very hard and the water the fish came in is soft. The peat managed to bring this down a bit. The fish had to go in or die in plastic bags so I took the risk. For now they seem to be ok I used stress coat, and stress zhyme also I admit I was a little unprepared for the arrival. and the tank is only a temporary measure while I sort there proper one
  5. I have brought 4 festivum's which I plan on attempting to breed in the future but keeping them alive in the mean time will do. I chose these fish because they seem like a challenge and are not that that common. My main worry is WATER they require a PH of 5.5 - 7.2 (opinions vary) and soft water. Where I live the water out of my tap is more like 8 - 9 and the water is hard my duboisi love it. Can they adapt to my water conditions? and if so how? I have a 200L tank for the festivum's with a 300watt heater. I'm going to use an internal filter for now. I think a semi planted tank is the best option so I have laid some peat (which I hope will help with the ph a little) underneath a mixture gravel and large grain sand substate. I will buy some plants and a sunlight bulb in the next day or two.
  6. Thanks for that. So can someone clarify for me what putting crushed oyster shells in will do to the water in a tank?

    g'day

Welcome to the forum, those julidochromis dickfeldi are great aye
  8. Ok, I have a ph of well over 7.5 (my ph test kit doesn't go beyond 7.5) but I want a ph of 5.5 to 7.2 because the fish I intend to get require it.
  9. Hi, we have quite hard water 7.5 + How do I get a sustainable P.h of between 5.5 to 7.2
  10. Hi, I'd like to find out how many Oranda fry I can raise in a 1000L tank?
  11. Yeah, I havent decided what kind of fish yet because that depends alot on what is available and what good deals I am able to find at the time. but lets just say I wanted to grow out fancy goldfish. I know they would do better in ponds/outside but I don't have the luxury of owning either so my garage/wannabe fishroom it is. Please note I'm not just talking here I actually intend to do this so any helpful advice would be great. I'm also thinking something that is a little uniform I dont want odd sized tanks or what have you I'm not good with ugly :slfg:
  12. Hi everyone, Does anyone have or know of any good alternatives to glass fishtanks to use for growing out tanks? I'd like to grow out some fish on a reasonably big scale. Not for profit really just because I enjoy the process. I cant afford a fishroom full of nice glass tanks and just wondered if there were any good alternatives. Obviously it depends on a whole range of things but any ideas comments etc about this question would be appreciated
