  1. On the land I have filled it with potting mix then put fine gravel on top to keep the newts out of the potting mix. I have two 8 watt lights on each and they are planted with miniature figs.
  2. They always look good as juvies---boy or girl?
  3. I saturate the vermiculite then sqeeze the water out by hand and place in the container. Spray more water if it is drying out. With turtles I used to cover the eggs but with beardies half in and half out. Some cover with a moist paper towel.

    Hello all

Welcome and enjoy your time here.
  5. Perfect. I have three set up and have divided a portion off for water and the other land.
  6. I would guess Hydrocotyle as well---possibly verticillata.
  7. A plastic container without holes or slots in my view is better because many fish will suck the eggs or fry through the holes for breckie.
  8. Might be best to just use clean water. I have a few in clean water at the moment. All it does is stop any fungus on infertile eggs spreading to fertile eggs. They should be alright without it. If that doesn't work try meth blue when they go again in less than a week if you give them a cold water change at night. Tonic has a raft of ingredients and is probably alright but I have not used it.You can use meth blue, or meth blue/malachite, or meth blue/malachite green/acriflavine, but it has quinine as well and that is more antiparasitic.
  9. You don't need water flow, just aeration and maybe a touch of meth blue. Put them in a floating plastic container with an airstone.
  10. I wouldn't mind if mine did that. They are only leap frogging at the moment.
  11. Don't feed them until they are free swimming as they are feeding on the yolk sac until then.
  12. So don't get caught with your trousers down? There are a few options--we may know more if they can be bred for a few generations. Have you had any albinos breeding this season? I have lots of croaking but no real serious activity. I could be playing the wrong music.
  13. Looks like your normal has some other genes floating about.
  14. The genes are in pairs so albino is two albino genes, split is one of each but albino is recessive so it looks normal and normal is 2 normal genes.
  15. It would have to be a split. Sometimes albino splits will show a little of the albino gene. It shows a little in birds sometimes but not always.
  16. The publisher is in Christchurch at the moment. Send her a PM, I am sure she can get one to you soon
  17. When coryodorus are sexually mature you feed them up well then give them a water change that cools the water at night and they will generally spawn a few hours after sunrise. You will have more luck breeding them in a seperate tank but you can remove the eggs and raise the fry in another tank.
  18. They will figure it out when they are old enough to breed.
  19. If you organise it right your frogs are brumating.
  20. Thanks for that info LA. That would lead me to believe that Maf are actually trying to be reasonable and reduce the Q period for low risk fresh water fish while keeping the same period for marines. In addition they seem willing to target testing at the actual or potential risks rather than the more expensive present blanket testing aproach. Since I have not had a reply to my question I think we should all look foreward to a lowering of costs of imported fish rather than a rise. I remain Yours sincerly Sirry irriot.
  21. I would say southern bell as the gold line is a bit broken up also
  22. Got my copy. Haven't finished reading it yet but a very good book.
  23. Don't feed until the fry are free swimming as they will be feeding on the yolk sack until then.
  24. Thanks for that LA. It would seem to me that the proposal is to reduce the Q period for most fresh water fish to 4 weeks, to leave marines at 3 weeks and to target the testing regime for diseases known to be a risk to that species. This seems to be in most cases to be less arduous than the present regime so could some one explain what the problem is? Sorry to be so thick and hung up in the past but I am sure people would be interested in why the prices will rise when Q is proposed to be for the same or a shorter period and testing more targeted.
