  1. It is not the heater that failed, it is the thermostat that has stuck in the on position. Usually the result of corrosion caused by moisture getting in there.
  2. I spent most of my working life on call over xmas/new year. Most people profess to be christian but for the majority it is not a religious festival--just a holiday. You could do with chrismas what many Asians do with new year and have two.
  3. They are big enough--you just have to change the water more often. You can build a purpose built setup from glass with mesh on the bottom that sits inside another tank and provides heaps of containers. To do a water change you just lift it up then drop it. That is what I used when breeding fighters.
  4. Boil it, let it cool, tip water and bag into tank--it should now sink (the bag that is)
  5. Sandpaper will scratch the glass and ruin the tank
  6. Welcome and enjoy your time here.
  7. Should be OK with that regime

  9. Make sure she is getting plenty of calcium so the eggs are formed properly.
  10. It sounds like water has got in to the heater and corroded the points on the thermostat so the are permanently closed and always on. The best thing is to replace with a good heater/thermostat and let the temperature drop by itself. Rapid change in temperature is worse than extremes of temperature.
  11. Do you mean an undergravel filter or a small box filter operated by an air pump? They both could be suitable if you keep up with water changes.
  12. Agree. Best to not breed till 2 years if possible.
  13. I used to have 8 pairs of angels breeding but only used about one drop per spawning in a small container.
  14. If you are treating tanks every couple of weeks it is not working and you should use something that does work. What are you treating and for what?
  15. A female beardie full of eggs is called gravid. When full of eggs they can look like a bag of marbles and when ready to lay will drive you nuts digging holes all over the place to lay in. You need a container of moist vermiculite or vermiculite/peat for her to lay in and large enough for her to dig a hole, lay the eggs and cover them up. Then you need an incubator to hatch the eggs and somewhere seperate to raise the young. A good time to make sure you are successfully breeding heaps of live food or have very deep pockets.
  16. Tapwater is OK but you don't want to clean your filter unless the flow is restricted as they only start working properly when half full of gunge.
  17. Welcome to the site and I hope you enjoy your time here.
  18. I litre is a lot. Are you planning on having a massive disaster?
  19. The offspring are pretty good at eating each other as well.
  20. Cycling is of course different to water changing.
  21. I use it straight from the tap but blend the hot and cold so the water going in is about the same as the tank.
