  1. The tank will not cycle if you strip the ammonia with zeopads as there will be no ammonia to feed the bacteria you are trying to establish.
  2. The gravel will have salt in it from the sea and you have already washed that out. I have used gravel from there in the past with no problems. The only foreign matter you may find in there are semiprecious stones or any things left behind by the maoris who were frequently there many generations ago.
  3. If each leg has both pieces securely fixed to each other they will negate the possibility of bowing.
  4. Driftwood can make the water acid.

  12. I was driving quietly along Linwood ave in a jammed up line of traffic ,surrounded by orange road cones when I could not keep the car in a s traight line at all. I thought one or two weels had come loose and I could not pull over to check. Came to a set of lights and stopped then started up quietly to see if it was going to do it again---no problems. That's the problem when you have had so many thousand quakes, you don't make the connection

  14. New Zealanders are renown for being DIY so most people look after there own tanks. There are a few people who hire and maintain tanks and a few that look after tanks for people but I suspect there would not be a big market here for that and any doing it are probably part timers.
  15. Blackworms are easy and whiteworms are fatty and don't like too much heat. Your fish will breed better with blackworms.
  16. If the culture gets neglected and dies the smell is something else but if you don't overfeed them and keep the water clean they are no problem.
  17. What we used to sell to the shops as tubifex was actually lumbriculus (blackworms) and Rodney Fletcher could sell you a starter culture I believe. They go best on high protein food and most people feed them kitten pallets or trout pallets

  19. I have used greywacke sand for many years over the top of the substrate and had no problems.
