  1. When the water in the bucket or coming out of the hose feels about the same as the tank it has always been OK with me.
  2. I had a friend living in Waikuku who was keeping fish at the time but has been away from there for some time. The biggest problem at that time was iron in the water, which is usually caused by acid water conditions with dissolved CO2. The water supply must be quite different now.
  3. I am not sure if I should be jewish or a muslim this xmas . Either way it will be a good way to have a very quiet relaxed xmas with no sign of panic about. My brother is arriving in two days. He is done with being a Zambian, then South African and now Strain. May your god go with you all.
  4. Fungus is usually an opportunistic secondary infection following from a bacterial infection of a physical wound. There are a number of treatments for bacterial infection including the acriflavine or furan and methylene blue will help with the fungus if that is what is there. Wunder tonic contains a number of ingredients that will have bacteriacidal and fungal uses. It contains acriflavine and methylene blue as well as other things so will likely stain.
  5. Corries are not brackish water fish so I would not use it.
  6. Hard to tell from the pictures. My guesses would be fungus growing over injuries from being bullied or columnaris (aka saddleback or mouth fungus). I don't know how effective your treatments would be as I have not used either.
  7. I have always bred white clouds in a breeding group and been successful but I have not bred paradise fish so not sure about them. Many fish will breed successfully in a group if you find a way to separate them from the eggs.
  8. They should be OK now but you will need to take time to get them used to the change in temperature. They handle going from warm to cold better than the converse----I used to just turn off the heater then put them in the pond next day but it takes a few days the other way around. They will probably breed so you will need to allow space for the young. Others best to give advice on pond plants as I haven't had a pond for a while.
  9. I have kept them year round in Christchurch so would be OK in New Plymouth.
  10. Contact DOC to find out their requirements for keeping native lizards. I think a glass terrarium would not be acceptable.
  11. Whitespot usually arrives through stress and raising the temperature will speed up the life cycle but stress the fish further, it will not kill whitespot. They are your fish and there is many ways to cure whitespot so I wish you luck.
  12. Whitespot normally attacks the gills before you see the spots on the fish. This is making the uptake of oxygen difficult and to raise the temperature makes it worse as the water will hold less oxygen, then you add salt which decreases the oxygen even further. The fish are getting pretty stressed out by now. Why not leave the temperature where it is and treat with one of the many suitable whitespot cures available?
  13. 25litres would be fine for a male
  14. They need the heat and the uv for 12 hours because we don't know when they are going to bask or for how long.
  15. Neons and angels are never a good combination (except for the angels). All angels have the potential to get large.
  16. They need heat and uv in the same position for 12 hours/day. Up to you how you provide it.
  17. They need the basking area to be warmer than the water to encourage them to come out of the water and bask in the heat. This is the best place to put the UV so that get that at the same time. I used a ceramic for heat (on a thermostat and on 4/7) and an energy saver uv or a tube ( on for 12 hours) If the wee fan is one of those ux/fans I would think they are all but useless as a source of uv.
  18. someone on facebook was offering it. Put an add on the wanted to buy section on here--- I think there is a bit about..
